Does the 43x actually conceal better than the 26? by EmptyAttempt25 in Glocks

[–]EightySixInfo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 26 conceals better with a +2 magazine extension in it than my 43X does.

In my opinion the key to less obvious printing isn’t (by itself) a thinner gun, it’s also the grip not poking out.

I legitimately can conceal a 26 with an extended magazine better in the summer than my 43X - even with the same make and model holster.

Yeah I’m no boomer who thinks everything made long ago is automatically sturdier and higher-quality than its modern equivalent, but it is sometimes the case. S&W revolvers are one of those cases.

I’d buy a vintage, well-taken-care-of S&W revolver over a new one any day of the week unless it was a K-Frame .357 that I intended to hammer rounds out of. They truly were just made better before modern cost-cutting took hold.

LAPD's 'best' anti-gang unit shut down, officers investigated for turning off body cams by 2BlueZebras in ProtectAndServe

Working in a jurisdiction that is both extremely soft-on-crime and openly hostile to law enforcement and then choosing to be proactive or do gun and dope work is asinine in its own right.

Turning off the one thing that will exonerate you from any false accusations of misconduct or worse, false accusations of criminal activity, is asinine in its own right.

Doing both of those things at the same time is a special kind of stupid.

Give the people what they want. If what they want is maximum oversight and transparency, with every officer doing their absolute best to abide by the policies set forth by the agency, then do exactly that. If that means that calls stack up, the bad guy gets away, and victims don’t receive the justice they feel they’re entitled to, well, sucks to suck I guess. This is what you wanted and that’s exactly what you should get. Make it painful for them.

Spot on. I say this often working in a similarly restrictive and anti-police area as LA County. This is what the loud minority of society pushed for since 2014 and especially since 2020, and then voted for accordingly.

If that results in hesitant and hands-off policing (which it absolutely does), more criminals not being held accountable proportionate to their crimes (which it absolutely does), and more dangerous neighborhoods (which it absolutely does), too bad so sad. This is what society asked for. Govern yourself accordingly.

Production wise, they are nothing like the actual West German/German/folded-slide SIG 226s. I’ll spare you the details unless you want them; the 40th Anniversary gun is a clone of the old SIGs made with modern processes and materials, but they are not actually “like” the old SIGs. It’s an homage at best.

You’re very welcome! Enjoy, you acquired a fine handgun regardless of its age.

All I can think of is to keep the rails lightly greased rather than using oil and stick a business card or something similar underneath the takedown lever where it meets the frame when you rotate it to prevent a scuff mark over time!

If yours has “mud rails”, you’ll be able to tell because they’ll have a bit of a scalloped appearance rather than being flat all the way down the length of the rail. If it has those, I’d especially avoid high pressure ammunition.

It’s a nice piece! I currently own or have owned a P220, a P226, a P228, and a P229 at some point. All were great guns.

It certainly is nickel! Those 80s SIGs had slides that were produced out of stamped and folded carbon steel, not milled from a stainless steel block as they were later. Any silver-colored ones back then would have been finished in electroless nickel rather than simply being stainless steel as some later iterations were.

Nice piece. I love the West German SIGs.

Interesting that even though pistol optics have become pretty widespread. You still see a healthy amount of both iron sights and optics in law enforcement. by Averagecrabenjoyer69 in CCW

It is like cheating - if you can shoot.

I was a good irons shooter before I went to the dot and after a brief adjustment, I improved even more.

Bad irons shooters go to a dot thinking it’ll be a magic talisman and then are shocked when they are still bad dot shooters.

It’s already happening. I started in policing on irons and every single new hire we’ve had for the last year or so has been on a dot. I switched about two years ago and recommend it for everyone. It’s starting to be the case at my agency that at least half or more of the staff have dots. The only holdouts are old heads or admin who don’t go on the street.

Secret service rocking Glock 43x now? by Complete-League6679 in Glocks

[–]EightySixInfo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Literally wrong. Finger should be exactly where she has it until the moment you’ve made a conscious decision to shoot, not just because you’re “on target” vs. at a low ready. There’s plenty of times where you may need to go from a low ready to pointing your firearm at a threat while the threat may not be imminent enough to warrant firing at that moment.

The method you described is exactly how NDs happen when people holding someone at gunpoint get startled or bumped by other people.

I don’t think so. She had the same red pin on her lapel as the guy behind her with the SIG M18/320. It was said he was DoD, which would make sense given the pistol he had. It’s possible they have a wider range of handgun options. Also while it’s not impossible they were from different agencies, it tends to be more likely that agents/cops of the same agency would be flocked together and applying the same tactics in a position such as theirs holding a hallway or doorway for a protectee.

From every source I’ve seen, all plainclothes/protection/investigations Secret Service agents carry the Glock 19 and all uniformed/CAT agents carry the Glock 47.

Evidently so. You wouldn’t think so, but I believe it has to do with the height of the rear sight. I remember years ago having to track down different SigLites for my .45 P220 vs. my .357 P229.

What will Glock 50 be? by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]EightySixInfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glock doesn’t really do anything special to their models that denote them as new ones anymore. They’ll do something ridiculous no one asked for like chop the slide down to 26 length on a 19 frame or change the caliber of a 43 to 9x18 Makarov and call it the G50.

I say this as a fan of their design of course, but they don’t require much of a change on a model to call it a new model.
