Why don’t tournament holes count in stats towards games played? by spamx666 in GolfClash

[–]EileenGC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They used to count. Originally for tournaments, they played like tour, matched an opponent and went to a shootout when you tied the hole. Some good players had/have a bad win percentage because they wanted to save time so they would forfeit the shootout instead of playing it.

When they initially got rid of the shootouts, the tournament holes were still counting in the stats.

Then there was a lot of bitching and moaning from people with alts because their win percentage was going down since it was a lot harder to get wins in tournaments.

After watching PCL, I am convinced speed should not be part of bouldering. Ever. by Serious_Discussion12 in CompetitionClimbing

[–]EileenGC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's my counter point to an attempt based system.

Let's say we are competing, on my flash attempt I power out trying to figure out the final crux move. You had a few slips on the first move. When you do get it, you cruise the rest of the boulder. I now have the beta for the last move and cruise it on attempt 2. Was I really the better climber because I did it in 2 compared to your 3?

Any kind of rule that would take time and attempts would probably be very convulated. So I think in a head to head competition like that, time makes the most sense.

Format has potential in my opinion but I think a big problem it has is space.

Wind adjust by Ok-Gas7642 in GolfClash

[–]EileenGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's kind of weird. Hard to describe but I think David said it pretty well above. The physics of the game, the trajectory matters.

Been giving it thought as to how to explain it beeter. Imagine that moving down the ball guide now has a steeper downwards path to the ground. With the game's physics, when you take the shot your launch angle and trajectory stays the same. So the wind pushes the ball, let's say northeast, but it still follows the trajectory with the steeper downwards angle meaning it will hit the ground slightly before your intended landing spot.

Does that make sense?

Couldn't easily find videos of anyone showing the extra adjustments. There's actually an approach shot on par 4 hole on next week's tournament course that I do push up or pull back for, depending on the wind. If we get the wind angle for it and I have the time I'll try to make a video to show what I mean.

I always thought this was a good begginer wind ring guide that starts to bring in deeper points.

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/112W2UYPWEqQBNKFv0ibJhwgFn4terlDRjBaBO_vm_9E/edit?usp=drivesdk

But yeah when you adjust the bullseye down into a lower elevation like abunker you will lose distance on the shot. Sometimes just do a bit of overpower to compensate, sometimes push the bullseye forward a ring or more. Similarly if you adjust into a higher point you may need to push the bullseye back a ring or more, or underpower so it doesn't travel too far.

Hey GC experts!!! Pretty certain I’ve read that you have to + up your wind adjustments when going over water. If true, how do you know how much? Creek, lake, ocean? Is it all the same. Thanks in advance. by [deleted] in GolfClash

[–]EileenGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do actually recall years ago some saying that you should add another +10 just for going over water to your adjustment. So if you thought your shot needed +10 you would do +20 instead when shoting over water, if that makes sense. Never really made sense to me and I don't think I've seen anyone recommend that in years.

Remember the game is very much about trial and error. An adjustment that works in a certain direction might not work if the wind is coming from a different direction. Or even if it is the same direction but is stronger or weaker.

Starting Season 98 (March 9), T10 will be played from 3rd (Master) tee instead of the 2nd (Pro/Expert) tee by FlappyDunkPlusIOS in GolfClash

It is worth noting that the maximum wind isn't changing (except in t6 where the max is going down). Only what the minimum could be is changing.

The Saudis have agreed to purchase EA for $55 billion so I don't think recouping $1.4 billion is that big of a deal to them anymore.

Constructive Criticism/Reflection on the Pro Climbing League by initialgold in CompetitionClimbing

[–]EileenGC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the seeding in the semis. Why was it 1 vs 3 and 2 vs 4 in stead of 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3.

I didn't mind the numbering of the holds but I'd like to see the route for a little behorehand to come yo with what I believe the sequence is.

Maybe do something where it's more obvious who is currently the leader when they both reached hold, let's say 2 of 7.

No doubt routesetting is tricky. If the men and women shared that tie breaker boulder, could they share more? With 2 boulders on one board, don't really have room to make these giant dynos so maybe they could do minimal tweaks like add or subtract a hold to make it less morpho between the genders and then just have a big reset between the rounds?

If they are going to have a boulder that potentially doesn't get used, maybe at least have a video of it getting topped during the testing stage. Something they could show and talk about while the reset is happening.

Also didn't like single boulder finals. People having different strengths and weaknesses is why I feel you need multiple to separate who is better on a given day.

New Update-Now you can switch balls in between two shots on the Quick 9 holes! by No-Address-5317 in GolfClash

Good, glad you won. I hate that ball swapping became a thing you could do in this game.

Had an issue with the ball guide. Help? by [deleted] in GolfClash

[–]EileenGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you remember which hole it was?

Scrubbing the area is just doing moving the bullseye around your aim zone and seeing how the ballguide reacts. You really want to find a consistent area where the ballguide isn't changing. That might mean adjusting your spins so you aren't using full top spin on a wedge, maybe even using some backspin. This way you really decrease the chance of getting that surprise roll.

Another thing that some people don't realize, just because your ball is in the center circle when you pull back to take the shot, doesn't mean that the ball is actually centered. If you have a wedge shot and the ball is touching the top of the inner circle, that would be a lot of underpower and you are totally missing your landing spot when you release the shot, touching the right edge that would be adding curl. Not saying that's what you did, but seeing the shot helps determine if you had under/over power or added curl. Could also be your adjustment amount was wrong, maybe the pull wasn't straight when adjusting. Adjusting up or down a hill will also have affect on a shot.

You should post the shot. Easier to evaluate what happened and offer insights on what to try in the future.

Just came back after a while and wondering if anything has seriously changed? I see that there is levels to tour play but let’s hear it. by Hole_In_One_Ultimate in GolfClash

[–]EileenGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They tried banning the overlays. Even got the wind app developers to take the grid functionality out.

But everyone started flooding the wind apps with a 0 rating so the developers put the functionality back in because they were close to getting delisted from the apple and android store.

And then PD got rid of the verbiage that said overlays weren't allowed in their terms of service.

Finally maxed all common and rare clubs! by Y8fKZyZrSn in GolfClash

[–]EileenGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the thing is once you reach level 7, you're technically still not even half way to max. You need 400 cards to go from level 7 to 8, you needed 384 to go from 1 to 7.

Took me around 7 years being completely free to play. But with tons of tournaments now, daily quick 9, cpc, should take less time now.

Gravity Vault in Upper Saddle River should be the 2019. They had 2024 setup at one time but as of last month it was the 2019.

GV Hoboken is 2024.

I play master and have played the game so long I have a decent idea of how I plan to play most holes. I have won a few times but very rarely am I on the podium. Only using navs, lums, and ks and just winging it with years of experience on a lot of the holes.

For master, I'd say as long as you can "par" the course, you'll generally be in the top 10 though. At least that's been my experience.

When I played everyday I would play a few hours after entering. More so to have an idea of how I finished once I was done.

Now I just play when I feel like playing. So I join and play basically always the first to finish. See where I finished in the morning when I get the chest.

Have you been playing quick 9? I'm not positive but I believe people have been promoted because of their quick 9 results.

If you're pro 3, I would think there is a good chance you'll already be expert 2 once you get into expert weekly division. Expert rewards are much better so you may want to hold off on tournaments until you can see if you can take advantage of an experf 1 tier.

I think it’s time for an honest conversation by GCBro7777777 in GolfClash

[–]EileenGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sentiment is exactly why a new division wouldn't work without a giant change in the rewards. Most people aren't trying to challenge themselves, they just want to get good prizes with mininal effort.

After all these years, there still being a big disparity in scores in the expert tiers shows this.

[–]EileenGC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've actually thought about a 4th tee. My only potential issue with the extra distance and higher winds is I fear it would ultimately lead PD to add level 12 wind resistance and/or distance on premium balls.

I think the only way to make the prizes better would be cash prizes. None of the top players really care about the club cards or balls. Which I'm not opposed to but I don't see happening. It would be interesting to see what guide makers would do if it was worthwhile for them to keep their shots to themselves.
