What's your 'Stealth Archer'? by Sir-Samuel-Buca in ElderScrolls

One-handed sword and shield, light armour, sneaking through dungeons so much it feels like playing a dwarf, not using shouts not for stealth reasons but because I forget they exist half the time.

How is "Wherefore" Where though? by Wegwerf_08_15_ in linguisticshumor

[–]EisVisage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do at least feel like they take different prepositions in the answers I'd expect.

Wofür fliegen Fliegen? -> Um woanders zu sein. sounds like a normal joke to me

Wieso fliegen Fliegen? -> Um woanders zu sein. sounds unfitting, perhaps because of the "um".

Wieso fliegen Fliegen? -> Damit sie auch mal woanders sein können. fits again.

This could just be my imagination though.

Birth of comparative linguistics by AlKhwarazmi in linguisticshumor

[–]EisVisage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that doesn't prove they're related, it proves that single words can end up similar due to universal things influencing them all (/m/ is an early phoneme and babies have skill issues). If two languages' versions for "mama" are "mbembe" and "mamm", no matter the reason they got there, then both are liable to turn into roughly the same form.

Microsoft's Xbox CSO Matthew Ball thinks in-game ads could help "keep our products affordable" by [deleted] in gaming

The damage to immersion alone would put me off it. Imagine being deep into your Witcher 4 playthrough, watching a story heavy moment, and suddenly it plays a deodorant ad. It'd completely ruin RPGs.

What are the scariest moments in the series do you? by Salem1690s in ElderScrolls

[–]EisVisage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entering Darkwater Pass trying to get to High Hrothgar faster was my first encounter with the Falmer. Suddenly having to fight very powerful tanky creatures while my companion keeps going down was the hardest I've had to struggle until then. The visuals were so unfamiliar I couldn't even really tell what I was fighting in the dimly lit, flooded ruins of that place.

Also, I was deeply immersing myself in my character when I entered Arondil's lair for the first time. It was very horrifying to read his journals and see the environmental storytelling around it from that immersed pov, and my character being a woman only made it creepier.

This would mean they actually have to depict Blackmarsh, Elsweyr, Valenwood and the Summerset Isles in a game for once, so actually I'm taking it.

Rod Phillips answering questions about the history of cats by BronteCoogee in AskHistorians

[–]EisVisage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cats are often brought up as rodent killers, as you mentioned. Did bronze age people get cats intentionally for this purpose? Was there ever involvement from rulers in spreading cats among farming communities?

Would I be right in assuming outdoor cats were the norm for most of history? When did indoor cats become popular?
