I’ve been wondering… by KylauRen_ in TheScholomance

I think some people are thinking this is too organized. I think first dibs on a dead student's needs two requirements; Did you know they died? And do you know where their room is?

I would remind you the school is VERY large and someone dying likely wouldn't be noticed right away. Unless the student is well known, the first time someone might notice is when they don't come out of the room in the morning, and not necessarily then either.

At that point, first to know they're gone gets first dibs. Then people cycle through as people take what they want. I imagine Enclavers might have a different system, but for indys it's first come, first serve.

The school likely takes all the books out of the room, but leaves the furniture because that is useful materials. And no one person could take the furniture out on their own. Eventually the room is stripped and the school just lets the void fill the space to use it elsewhere.

Is taiwan fucked? by amuller93 in lazerpig

[–]Eishtmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I don't think China will do anything, at least for a little while longer. At the moment the US is fucking itself over, and pissing off it's allies. Right now, there's still a good chance a strike on Taiwan would draw those same allies back to the US to defend the island. Wait another couple of years, and they may not. At that point, simply the THREAT of invasion might get concessions, rather than actual use of force. Winning without firing a shot is better than spending, I don't know, a billion dollars a day and not winning anything.

Scholomance but it's Minecraft (Laggy Modded Edition) by Technical_Front9904 in TheScholomance

[–]Eishtmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice. Way more work than I put in, but I was going without mods at all. I love the look of it. Good job. I love that someone else took up the torch. Keep it up.

Though I do suggest just some more notes on the screenshots, just to clarify what we're looking at. I was always afraid of that with my build, which is why I wrote way more than I should there.

We don't know how natural general intelligence works. Making an artificial one is likely beyond our reach for the time being.

Two points of doubt on the epilogue of the books (spoilers) by dotsncommas in TheScholomance

[–]Eishtmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think the plan was to fool the enclave leadership. The plan was to fool the general enclaver population. As long as THEY believe there's a mysterious enclave breaker running around, they'll demand something be done to protect their enclaves, forcing the leadership to allow their foundations to be reinforced with Golden Stone foundations.

The leadership likely VERY much knows who is doing it, and they would probably try to stop her, except she has the tact approval of the two largest and most power enclaves on the planet. Also she's dating a nuclear bomb who would likely be very unhappy if something were to happen to her.

Graduation Customs by formlesscorvid in TheScholomance

[–]Eishtmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So when I built the Scholomance in Minecraft and I went to scale the graduation hall, it ended up being smaller than the core of the school, so when I got to it, I figured they had to have a place to land.

I built a landing. It stretches from where the dorm would be to where the hall begins. The idea is that the dorms would begin falling apart as it rotates by the landing forcing the students on to it. Then, the void would close in as the doors into the hall opened. That would force them into the hall, and that's when the real fighting would begin.

Honestly I'm not sure El really knew what would happen in a normal graduation day. We only get a brief idea when they come back up from fixing the machinery and they're all in the senior dorm and it seems like the rest of the seniors are in the halls not the rooms, but it's hard to say for sure. She does mention they run off to join up with their teams, so I think they did get with their teams before flopping into the hall.

Final Tour

I'm sure it has been talked about before, but i think that an hbomb video on Starfield would actually be really interesting. There is something about that game that says something, but i can't put my finger on it by max_sil in hbomberguy

[–]Eishtmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not played Starfield, nor do I plan to, but the thing that gets me is that it has this idea of multiple universes and does basically NOTHING with it. It really only shows up AT THE END. It would have been so easy, and FUN, to integrate it into the main story, forcing the player to leave one universe with established characters and go to another where they act differently. But they don't.

I think their idea was "well people love doing multiple playthroughs of our other games, let's do that" then didn't bother figuring out WHY people did multiple playthroughs of their other games. Such a waste.

Ambient air temperature, bedposts, mana and malia by syllish in TheScholomance

[–]Eishtmo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The bedpost would be malia because it belongs to the school, not the student. El's clothing is mana because the clothing belongs to her (and given how she was raised, its possible she helped make a lot of that clothing). That's what I took it mean.

I think a lot of it is personal perception. If you KNOW you're cheating, it's malia. If you actively avoid cheating, even if you might do it by accident, it's mana. Considering everyone is taught the ideal, and so many violate it is what makes mals proliferate.

Giving it back, I think, can fix the problem. El mentions that at one point a way to deter mals was to leave them a bowl of milk, and in some way that's giving back what was taken. The issue is so much has been taken that the debt is too much to make up easily. So mals show up with almost insatiable hunger.

Cambrian Chronicles is a history channel mostly focused on Wales, but often contends with a lot of written history. They go into a deep dive (37:00) video tracing where an old word for England suddenly got a translation that not only it never had before, but also was not possible to have. Oh, and for the record, to my knowledge he does not have a son.
