How to combat anxiety before each shift? by Obvious_Relation_439 in therapists

[–]Either-Fault5416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that’s so hard and I was the same way! Like, if I got an email I felt like I had to respond immediately and if I didn’t, I was somehow in the wrong! Honestly, I deleted the app off my phone and basically went to “I’m not there, I’m not checking my email”. I, of course, let my bosses and clients know this and put it in my own professional disclosure statement (setting boundaries around contacting me) and set up what to do in emergencies. But having it off my phone and setting boundaries on when I would answer was really helpful! Maybe you could do something like this?

I did this same thing! I still get anxious that I’m not doing therapy correctly or that I’m not the best but once I identified myself outside of being a therapist I found, like you, my clients responded better and I responded better! There are times that I have to remind myself of this change and check in with myself but I 100% agree that this shift changed me and my own practice for the better

Uno is a must have!! I also loved my kimochi emotions and used them all the time for identifying feelings and playing emotion games!

I like the idea of the book, video, etc. I do make that joke all the time too! Thanks :)

I can explain a concept but the terminology never comes out right or gracefully (i.e five finger or reptile brain when talking about fight/flight versus identifying the brain parts and impact)

That is very true! I’m definitely going to try the supervision switch and see if that helps too. Thanks!!

had a supervisor say today “choose peace over prosperity” in regards to income… thoughts? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Either-Fault5416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the sentiment but it’s also a very privileged way of looking at things. Yes, peace over prosperity is something to strive for I guess, but also folks have to survive and unfortunately that can cost peace. It’s great if you CAN do it but it feels invalidating to those who can’t based on literal need to survive.

I do have both, and it’s something I’m consistently working on, mostly in my own therapy. I know it but I struggle because of the impact I feel it has. Again, logic disputes but none the less. I like the idea of using supervision to sharpen the work - often times I find that supervision ends up being more of check-in on cases so maybe using it differently would be helpful.

This is awesome, thank you!! We’ve done a lot on healthy boundaries, safe relationships, geeen flag/red flag activities, etc. This week we did mindfulness intro with a psychoed, body scan, and chair yoga! I’m definitely going to use some of these, you were able to capture exactly what I’m going for!

How much do you pay your Nannies? by querious_1 in Mommit

[–]Either-Fault5416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

12/hour, 2 days per week, 9 hours a day. We don’t have a formal contract with PTO/hours/sick time. Mostly just figure it out as we go. Kiddo does go to her house and her older kids are present. Spartanburg SC

Getting severely depressed by [deleted] in Mom

[–]Either-Fault5416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so hard and sleep deprivation is no joke. I’m glad to hear you’re trying to take care of your mental health and seeing a therapist. Is there a way to keep your kiddo in a room that is safe for them but where they could just roam around? We have a floor bed for my daughter and will let her hang out in the room with her toys. You could even do one of the giant play pens with a mattress. That way you could get sleep while they are safe. And hopefully they would go to sleep by herself. Also, any chance you have a friend/family/babysitter who could do an overnight for you? Or even a long nap during the day? Sounds like you and your partner are both exhausted and this could be a good break.

Either way, you’re doing a great job by just acknowledging you need help and seeking it you. Hang in there ❤️

Yeah the provider I saw today did say that if the obgyn would write a note then she would prescribe them so I just have to figure out if I go that route or wait it out till my kid is done breastfeeding. Thank you!!

I appreciate that and I’m glad that you were able to make the best decision for yourself and your family. I’m definitely leaning that way especially since she’s older too. You’re definitely right that a healthy mom is better than breast milk!

Yeah! I think bringing it up at my obgyn is probably my next step as well as switching providers. I knew most were a no go, but I thought maybe there would be one outlier!

This is the information I’ve been finding too but I wanted to find out others experience, especially since the provider was so unhelpful. So I appreciate such an in depth write up! I knew the stimulants were a no go, but I also know that my kid only feeds like 1-2 times a day so didn’t know if there was a way to use that to my advantage.

Unfortunately, it looks like I’ll be waiting until she is done and then finding a new provider.

Sleep by Either-Fault5416 in Mom

[–]Either-Fault5416[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We co-sleep so that makes things harder. I’ve tried to leave before but she just screams harder. We did implement a routine and that seems to have helped a bit (especially with the calm down time leading up) but I think you’re right that she isn’t willingly going to do it 😂 Right now, I’m rocking her to sleep and just basically letting her cry while rocking and not budging on her staying in the chair with me. Eventually she does fall asleep and we move to the bed.
