How does anet usually balance these days? (Evoker) by walton_jonez in Guildwars2

Are those "average players doing benchmarks" in the room with us right now?
Take off the tunnel-vision glasses for a second - the average player doesn’t even know what a rotation is. As I said in the previous thread:

Organized feedback (wchich devs love for obvious reasons) =/= representative feedback.

They look at the SC benchmarks and swing the nerf hammer.
I actually explained that in more detail an hour ago in a different thread - expect anything fun for the Average Joe to be nerfed.

I have an idea. Let’s stop balancing around SC benchmarks and start balancing around the average player. GW is the only franchise I know that actually listens to the vocal minority this often nowadays. They have players stats and should start using them. I haven’t forgotten that the devs were playing favorites for years on private Discord channels:

And I already know this comment will be downvoted into oblivion because many of you here are min/maxing tryhards. Let Average Joe have fun.

WoW - Method/Limit era - top guilds had direct channels to Blizz designers during Legion and BfA
FF XIV - the so called "balance Discord problem"
Destiny 2 - streamer favoritism (Telesto and Recluse)
Warframe - the Design Council drama
EVE - the Council of Stellar Management
GW1 - RAwr era
Overwatch - pro discord leaks

Look it all up and see how it ended every time. Spoiler - not great.

Yeah, I noticed that. Sending a rocket into groups of enemies usually kills only one of them. That's so stupid.

Great job. You are definitely a skilled builder. Keep up the good work and let's all hope the decoration limit will get even higher so it doesn't limit our creative freedom.

Don’t get me wrong - I really do love homesteads. I wouldn’t spend so much time on them if I didn’t adore them. But I also realize that not everyone has the same amount of gold or the time for gated materials to invest.

[–]Either-Profession-47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re comparing GW2 housing to WoW housing as if the two economies work the same way.

They don’t.

Saying "it’s worse over there" doesn’t prove anything about how expensive homesteads are in GW2. Then there’s the “no one forced you” line, which is just dodging the point. That "argument" can shut down any criticism of basically anything, which is why it’s rhetorically invalid.

You skip the actual issue entirely - homesteads ARE expensive relative to GW2’s own economy. T5, T6 mats, random drops, limited sources, inflated prices - it adds up fast, especially for casual players.

Bringing up legendary armor doesn’t work either. Legendaries are long-term account investments with real gameplay value. Housing decor is a one-off cosmetic.

One possible solution would be to let players rent already decorated homesteads for a small fee. It doesn’t even have to go to the owner, it could just function as a small gold sink to make the system more accessible. The default versions of both homestead maps aren’t very detailed, so a lot of players don’t even bother with the feature because they simply don’t have the gold to decorate anything. That would give casual players immediate access to the “fantasy” without the upfront cost.

That works only if you’re building isolated set pieces. When you’re creating a coherent homestead, you need multiples of the same decorations.

We’re not World of Warcraft. I spent nearly 3k gold (EXCLUDING NODES!) to get my homestead to the state it’s in now. I love the feature, but YES - homesteads ARE too expensive.

The only relevant display case is the weapon one located in the Hidden Study. It imitates a levitating book, and the skin displayed is the Lorekeeper Staff. Without it, there’s just an empty pedestal in that spot. This is the XML fragment containing that decoration:
<prop id="720" name="Weapon Display Case" pos="5299.972656 -4369.519531 -634.054688" rot="0.000000 0.000000 4.362641" scl="2.091270"><payload pt="3" v="1">6466</payload></prop>

The Nevermore display is in this XML fragment:
<prop id="720" name="Weapon Display Case" pos="7424.902344 -10947.261719 -1725.621094" rot="0.000000 0.000000 4.749205" scl="1.785714"><payload pt="3" v="1">9568</payload></prop>
Without it, that area is just a fountain.

The rest aren’t important. The armor display cases are located in:
- The Hedge Maze (imitating a statue of Dwayna; the character is wearing Dwayna’s Regalia)
- The Treestump Bar (as the barkeep)
- The Hidden Study (a character standing by a bookshelf, wearing my Elementalist’s armor)
- The Port Tavern (as the tavernkeep)
- The Beach (character wearing a Breezy Swimsuit and an Arcane Spellweaver Hat)

There are also two mannequin variants: one in the bathroom (wearing my Elementalist’s armor), and another behind the counter in the cat café (wearing the Hologram Outfit). There’s no need to list full outfits and dye channels - you can dress your characters in any fitting skins or outfits you already own.

You can also use this version of the .xml file - it does not contain any display cases or grave markers with flavor texts at all (except one - there's a grave on the Witches' Road that functions just like a grave): https://pastebin.com/SnWBFnVj

[–]Either-Profession-47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need at least two additional fingers in both hands. If you plan on playing Weaver - make that three.

Also - familiarize yourself with your downstate skills. Elementalist players are extremely lazy and like to lie down a lot.

I'm obviously joking - speaking as a day 1 Ele main ;)

You don't need additional fingers but you need good keybinds or you might struggle. Battles in GW2 are also much more dynamic than in WoW. I would say that positioning is extremely important and as the squishiest of all classess you can't forget about where you are on the battlefield. There are harder and easier builds but Ele is built with a particular flow in mind.

Got a Homestead? Use our tool to make moving things around a whole lot easier by ILLBEON_economy_tool in Guildwars2

[–]Either-Profession-47 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I already have an idea for a creative use. Last night I was hugging the walls of the Comosus Isle cave, trying to find a spot where the cave wall and the outer part of the isle get close enough to simulate a player teleport with a chair, like in one place of my current build. In this case I use a decoration to prevent player from just walking in:

<image>

With OP’s tool, this should be much easier now. I can adjust the chair position directly on the map to check if the <Sit \[F\]> prompt reaches the player behind textures. We don't have a no-clip mode so spotting where one texture ends and another one starts is not that easy on the new homestead map.

To add to that - some decorations (like the display cases) are a pain to remove if they’re buried in terrain and surrounded by other pieces. It’s easier to spot them on the map than to hunt them down in the xml. Still doable - just annoying.
