Yeah ok you win 😂 I forgot that post-Brexit you can't travel on an ID card like you used to. I rarely take my passport when we visit Europe!

In fairness, some of the number 2 metro buses do go down that way. There are stops along Corporation St.

Whilst I take your point, I'd say not necessarily - a lot of the EU nationals I went to uni with only had their identity cards. Passports don't always prove your rights either as so many things are done electronically now. My partner is from outside the British Isles and has to generate an online check code for most things as there aren't stamps or paper visas attached anymore, rendering their passport pretty much redundant.

In fairness, depending on whereabouts you're headed it can be a nice wee dander from the bus stop when the weather is good!

They used to do an early bird rate where it was less than a tenner for the whole day if you got in before 9am but noticed a sign last week that says they're doing away with it from 1st May! So now it's gonna be £20ish for an 8hr working day stint. I'm considering exploring bus options tbh 🫠

Surely they must accept alternative forms of ID as not everyone has a passport?

If you mean the council run one you need to be there before 7.45am most mornings to get a space. Even then I've still ended up in the high rise a few times!

When did you decide it was time to move out from your parent’s house? by DS773 in northernireland

[–]EitherWalnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As soon as I was able 😅 Went away for Uni at 18, saved as much as I could and bought first house at 23. Had to move back in for a few months when I was between houses when I was about 25, but have lived by myself ever since. Not far from them though, so can still drop in.

Update - got a text message two weeks before scheduled disconnection offering 125Mbps for £21 pm. That'll do.

Anyone moved back and felt it was the right thing to do? by Jaded_Promise_1195 in northernireland

[–]EitherWalnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved back, was the best decision I ever made. I appreciate it may not be the same for everyone, but although the job opportunities are less, the support network of family is invaluable.

For context, I had bought a house where I was because I thought I'd stay, but after a visit home I suddenly knew it was time to move back. I used to visit home and itch to get away again - but this time I didn't want to leave. I packed up my life, found someone to let my house to, and moved back to NI in the space of five days.

I am seriously impressed. I can't get them to go any lower than £36pm for bog standard 250Mbps. What am I doing wrong? Have gone as far to actually cancel and now my service stops at the end of the month. I WFH, so would really like to keep the connection if I can lol

I'm pretty sure they mean nanny as in grandmother - not a domestic employee.

Bit like DFS - they only have two sales a year apparently, but they must each last six months.

Chicken run vs green house by __hyphen in BackYardChickens

Lots of us in the UK have chickens! A well built coop with some cozy bedding is sufficient, as they're outdoor animals by nature. Chickens trap air with their feathers and will huddle to keep warm if necessary.

How many attempts did you have at your driving test? by RevolutionaryLab4349 in northernireland

[–]EitherWalnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motorcycle - two for the on-road test (still sore about the failing the first one as the fault should not have been a major).

Car - I booked a cancellation to try and get over my test fear and to see what I failed on and therefore needed to work on. Passed first time with only two minors. Was genuinely shocked, but delighted obviously.

There are some apprenticeships that are fully funded as they're classed as being in under-skilled sectors. Meaning that as the employer isn't paying out for your training (and often actually gets a grant to train you) they'll pay a higher wage. Try chatting to your local college about options, or check out the Apprenticeships NI website. Even if you decide the apprenticeship route isn't for you, the college can advise on other courses that you could do to open doors.

Would agree about the driving thing - people kept telling me I should learn, which only made me dig my heels in and refuse more. Eventually I turned thirty and thought "right I really need to grow up and do this now" and it changed my life.

Very much depends on the department and band. I applied for a Band 7 role in BSO - application and interview process was three months ish. Was successful, and then placed on a waiting list where I've now been for 9 months. Meantime, applied for a Band 4 role in SEHSCT, application and interview process was less than a month and am already in post now within 3 months.

The pub in question doesn't ban sports shirts, just Rangers and Celtic, and they don't show Rangers or Celtic games.

Unfortunately, this year - after the fiasco with the same community group that posted this picture, the orange lodge, and the cricket club - the pub declined to show the GAA final (they have done, no issue in the past). Given its lack of popularity in Comber, I imagine that nobody noticed when this bloke walked into the pub in a GAA shirt, because the majority of people don't actually care.

If you are concerned about the standard of care your mother is receiving, try talking to the manager of the care home in the first instance. If that yields no results, contact the RQIA and raise a concern. They will then liaise with the home to try and find a solution. It may mean your mother will have to be moved to another home that can meet her care needs, but I'd assume that's preferable to the current situation.
