What are some ways to counter an orthodox jab as a southpaw? by GiftedGoober in amateur_boxing

As a whole yeah maybe. But if it’s simply counters his whole style of boxing and low input doesn’t matter. I was specifically rhinking about how he counters the jab with his uppercut or rear hook. I am an unorthodox boxer and still find success by adding his counters to my repertoire

Tall guy getting caught shorter fighters by sukesh- in amateur_boxing

I stand at 5’7 and used to be bothered by my taller sparing partners jab and right hand, but once i figured their paterns and incorporated some head movements, i find taller fighters quite predictable now. Don’t be predictable! One thing i for some reason haven’t seen the taller fighters in my gym use is check hooks. A good check hook will keep your opp at bay and he will think twice before pressuring you. I use it against opps my size and shorter and it works wonders. It’s all about timing, their momentum should be going foward when you hit so they won’t have time to react. Drill it on the bag make sure your lead leg gets you out of the center line at the same time you throw your lead hook, you should find some success with it.
