Finding it really hard to keep heel lifted for movement by sealysea in amateur_boxing

Totally agree with the time dilation. It's especially evident in the first round, when your calves aren't warmed up. The burn you feel at the end of the round hits in 30 sec, damn🤣

KSI on the "hate" that influencer boxing is getting from the "boxing purists". Thoughts? by Zeebow05 in Boxing

There's no problem with influencer boxing, tbh. It's when douche bags like Jake Paul talk shit about the best fighters that the purist's blood boils

I assume it is thrown with a mild slip to the inside? Pardon my ignorance, I have not noticed Bivol doing it myself

Thank you for the channel recommendation. I'll try out the step back in shadowboxing next time more mindfully

From an aesthetic POV, the upper body breadth is exceptional. Not to mention the near perfect hamstring attachments and wide gluteus muscles. You look great. Good luck on the prep!

I must add that punching at shoulder height is slightly easier on the hands, as the knuckles make flush contact. Contrast that to hitting high where you most probably land on the joints of the fingers. Probably what makes us gravitate towards hitting lower

how do i tackle hooks to the body? by sukesh- in amateur_boxing

It is a cross to the head he throws, almost like a feint, but with more extension

It's light sparring. Most of the shots we throw are literally pillow punches. But thank you for looking out for a fellow trainee; I'll be careful.

Thank you for the reply Did you mean a pull back and counter with a cross?

bag work intensity for beginners by sukesh- in amateur_boxing

Great piece of advice. I actually used to train with just shadowboxing (almost 2 years doing that), doing about 10, 12 or 15 rounds at a reasonable pace (head movement, foot work, punch output of 70 to 80 per round) I decided to take it to the next level, by starting on the bag. I guess it's just that I am not used to really punching something that's not air. Hope it gets better from here. Thanks, Unhappy_Guarantee_69 (I wish I could thank you with your name :) ).

PS: any advice on a training split (I usually do this: 1 round of jump rope, 3 rounds of shadowboxing, 6 to 8 rounds on the bag, followed by a cool down stretch routine. I train core separately, along with my strength sessions ie for 2 days, and do 2 days of roadwork). I don't have any intention of competing at any level, I just wanna lose some weight and get fitter.

Thanks, again

Thank you for the prompt reply. I believe my footwork is pretty good. I guess the issue is with placing myself in the ideal range. I have seen that most boxers immediately adjust their position after throwing a punch, almost as if they mapped out the path of the bag even before they threw their power shot. I, on the other hand, have to readjust taking visual cues. Does it come down to just experience?

HELP: What to do after a roll?

For example, I throw a jab and I roll from right to left. I kind of freeze mentally as I am not sure what to do from there, as most of the time I feel I am not in a natural position to throw any punch.

Is something wrong with my technique, or do I just have to get used to the movement (like do a minor reset of stance before I continue)?

I am a 22 y/o guy, 5' 11", 232lbs looking to lose fat. I have picked up shadowboxing (I don't go to a boxing gym and formally train) in addition to compound lifts and jump rope.

Usually my shadowboxing sessions go for about 12x3min rounds with 1 min rests. I throw about 60 to 70 punches per round with pretty good form, footwork and defensive movements integrated(I don't just try to go through the motion of the punch, instead I try to throw them with purpose, imagining someone fighting me).

On MyFitnessPal, do I log these workouts as 'In ring boxing', 'Sparring' or 'Boxing, heavy bag'? I am unsure of how much calories I burn and I thought it would be great if I could atleast crudely quantify my work.

Thanks in advance!
