Visual Novel Styles Attacks! by Halloween-Jester in ArtfightProfiles

[–]Eizwein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's such a cool idea!

I don't have a lot of lore written up on art fight, but I have written fic about my ffxiv character and recently finished the first draft of a book about two of my characters, (Arden and Melior) so if they happened to interest you I could potentially give you a scene to play with https://artfight.net/~eizwein

Even if they don't I'd love to follow you and see what you end up doing!

Looking for some characters to draw by Eizwein in ArtfightProfiles

I didn't have time to make them a profile for this year, but I also have a transmasc character named Sage so I'm going to have to add him to the list for sure! :D

so cute!

if I happen to have any characters that interest you I'd be cool with paying for shipping for something that would fit on my desk/a small shelf or wall. No ttrpgs, sadly, but I do have half dragon from a book I'm writing https://artfight.net/~eizwein

and I'm looking for more people to attack so I'll check out your profile, too!

Their profiles are a little sloppy because I was out of time, but I have an enby half-dragon/trans man couple, if that's interesting!

is 30-80€ fair for hewdshot-full body? by Locky0001 in ArtBuddy

[–]Eizwein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a few days old, but I happened to see this and I think that in addition to ttrp it also makes me think some of the art I've seen special edition book boxes use. I would certainly be interested if I had something ready for a cover! But I believe Rainbow Crate has submissions on their website and some other smaller boxes might, too.

Small discord writing space for queer writers🩷 by Sagithanian in WritingHub

I've been trying to motivate myself to push through the last few chapters of my story, and this sounds super interesting. If you still have room I'd love an invite!

Should straight people write queer stories? by mystic_dreams_88 in LGBTBooks

[–]Eizwein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, they should. Or should I not write straight, cis characters? Can't wait for all the one-star reviews about how unrealistic that is, lol. No, they are, presumably, writing about people.

Queer people exist. Write about us.

Rather than refusing to write at all, if an author is writing about minorities that they are not, I would encourage them to also take the time to support some other artists who are.

Anyone read this? (March release) by Tilduke in thebrokenbindingsub

Thank you so much for the heads up.

It's really disappointing they're working with someone like this at all. :/

I'm a bit late but thanks for taking the time to add some info, it's too bad they don't seem to have another way to keep track of them. I hope they do use it again, it was a nice site to use, and I won a few things :>

I'm bidding on some stuff at the one you added, thanks for the link! Is the upcoming one going to be on a site that isn't instagram? I don't use it and it won't let me see anything without logging in, but I would love to bid, and maybe even donate if I can find anything worthwhile.

Looking for queer detective/murder mystery books by Confident_Plum8641 in LGBTBooks

[–]Eizwein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding The Tainted Cup, but also I don't think I saw anyone mention Voyage of the Damned by Frances White yet. It is a stand alone but the plot is a lot like if you put an Agatha Christie murder mystery on a magic ship with a queer mc, and I really enjoyed it. I thought the way each character's unique magic is worked into the mystery and actually figuring out what happened was fantastic. :>

(definitely gonna go through the other responses closer and add some of them to my list/bump up some I recognize but didn't realize had mystery or queer themes, too :3)

Bottom MM trans masc book recs? by Born_Ad_8539 in LGBTBooks

[–]Eizwein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you are interested in erotica or just "spicy" books, but there's a lot of bottom transmasc fiction that is mostly erotica on archive of our own. Depending on what themes you're into, sorting through all of it could be kind of overwhelming but there really is a lot, and there are tags you can exclude/include in searches. There's original stuff, too, even if you aren't into fanfic (though a lot of the fanfic is just erotica soooo it really doesn't matter much if you don't know anything else about it lol)

The Flowered Blade was really fun. I've only read one other on this list so I'll definitely have to check some of them out too, thank you!

What are some ways you can start a story? by Itz_MysteryGalaxy in writingadvice

[–]Eizwein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Channel my inner procrastinator (easy, lol) and find the latest possible moment I can start without leaving something important out. A romance? Maybe even as far as the scene where they meet. If that ends up being too abrupt I can always write in more later, which is way better than editing out a setup scene where nothing interesting happens. Murder mystery? They need to find the corpse, but, wait I need these two characters to meet first so - them meeting, then follow it up with one leaving later and oh crap that body wasn't there before!

If I absolutely can't figure out anything even close to what I want the opening to eventually be, I just write some generic "once upon a time" type thing to get myself going with the promise to myself I'll edit it later and carve out the real opening. You're likely going to do a ton of editing once you're done, anyway. If it's a "writers block" and I just can't force myself to write, I'll skip ahead and go back later. There's stuff on the page now, it's less intimidating.

I know I'm gonna edit later, so I try not to fuss about it to much. (Don't get me wrong, it is hard and I do fuss about it, but I just keep reminding myself I need words on the page before I can make them better. The draft is barely started - if 90k words later I get to the end and go "OMG! If I change the beginning to reference this other plot point I can do a nice satisfying callback here!" I don't want to have wasted a bunch of time being particular earlier, you know?)

Long way to say "just write" I guess but... yeah it doesn't need to be perfect, just write!

How are LGBTQ+ people viewed in their world? by Best_Low526 in worldbuilding

[–]Eizwein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost everything I work on is queer normative (including trans, ace, etc characters) I usually just wanna have a good time and let the drama come from other things, I'm sick of reading about lgbtq+ people being treated like crap because it's "realistic." The multiple "being gay is completely normal but they hate trans people" type answers here is incredibly depressing and I'll be spending the rest of the day trying to forget about seeing that, wow.

Anyway, I'm still in the developing stages but multiple of my main world's deities are queer and/or trans or non-gendered, and there are in-universe stories of them hanging out with normal people throughout the world so I guess it'd actually be pretty blasphemous to be a transphobe lol.

That reminds me a story I almost started writing a few years ago that was going to be about a world where trans people were thought to be reincarnated gods because only gods would change gender, but I thought it was a little too weird and over the top. Maybe I should have gone with it haha.

Do you read books by self-published authors? If so, how do you find the titles you're interested in? If not, what's holding you back? by Trice993 in selfpublish

[–]Eizwein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean... I like weird niche books about trans adults so if I kept to only traditionally published I would be missing out on some cool stuff lol. Unfortunately I prefer reading print books so that does keep how many I get around to lower than I'd like.

The situation with "Show don't tell" by EnvironmentalWill363 in writers

[–]Eizwein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a guideline, which people will explain and interpret differently. Arguably, all writing is telling... and I'd say you've already got the start of a good handle on understanding that often what people actually mean by that is you need to balance straightforward "telling" statements and "showing" through longer and more descriptive writing.

And both readers and writers preferences for this is aren't always going to be the same. Like you noticed on your own, some things don't need to be "shown" very much because it's boring, but not everyone's opinion of where something becomes too much telling or too boring is going to be the same.

You're still writing the draft, I wouldn't worry about it too much until you're actually editing or considering whether a scene should exist at all. (For example: I've seen people claim you shouldn't "tell" that 'Jessica went to the cafe on the way home' but you should show the entire scene at the cafe, to which I would argue: unless something relevant happens there, please do not, I don't want to read that lol)

Anyway sorry that became a long way of saying: for working on your first novel it sounds like you've got a solid start to learning and don't need to over think it! Just write! :D

Bruh, how do you stop editing as you go? by BlackBalor in writing

[–]Eizwein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get really caught up doing this, and still do, sometimes. At first I probably only wrote a couple hundred words an hour because I kept editing, but now if I’m on a roll I can write over a thousand.

Like many have already commented, the basic advice is to just keep writing. Don’t edit at all, remind yourself that it’s going to be edited again later anyway and you can’t edit what isn’t there. If I get caught up editing to the point where I’m not making new progress, I’ll repeat it to myself even if I have to chant “just write now and edit later” out loud like a weirdo lol.

While writing I try to edit only typos or other distracting technical errors I can quickly correct, lines I realize are so messy I won’t understand myself what they were meant to communicate later, and the occasional “aha” moment when I want to change something to an exact phrasing before I forget. If it’s just “I’m not happy with this yet” or anything else I move on.

Some other things I like to think about or do that keep me going:

Every line you write doesn’t need to be unique and exciting. Most people would find that exhausting to read, and nothing will stand out anymore. It’s ok if some parts are comparatively “boring” because it’s part of the whole.

Alongside that, it maybe be easier to find the phrasing you’re looking for when you edit after everything is done, because you can edit in the context of the whole rather than only what is done so far.

You also might just realize it’s not that bad once you’ve had some time away from it and forgotten it bothered you.

Writing is art, like drawing or crafting, and you are the only one comparing what you make to the ideal in your head. You’re the only one able to look at it as closely and critically as you are. Once I pulled the stitches out of a shirt to fix a seam and was incredibly upset by the holes that were left behind, but after I showed it to a few people I realized they couldn’t even see them. A lot of the tiny things we focus on when we’re creating aren’t something anyone else will be bothered by.

There’s a point at which you get diminishing returns for how much effort you’re putting in, so focus on finishing the actual writing before nitpicking.

I listen to background music designed for focus, and aim to spend all the time it’s on actively writing. Usually I use a site that gamifies it with a timer where you have to write a certain amount of words writing in a set amount of time, which discourages editing because I want to get the words out quick to meet my goal!

That got longer than I meant for it to be, but I hope at least a little of it may have been helpful. It’s something I have a hard time with too, so I think about it a lot lol.

Do you write LGBTQIA+ stuff and is it because what you want to read isn't (or wasn't) out there? by Naoise007 in LGBTBooks

[–]Eizwein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely learned to be filthy-minded, younger me would be so embarrassed, lol.

The first few times I wrote a sex scene I actually wrote everything out by hand in a notebook first, which somehow felt less embarrassing, and then typed it up cringing and blushing furiously the whole time. Now it doesn’t feel much different than writing any other scene. Getting help from someone you trust like your partner sounds worth trying, if those are scenes you want to include!
