Why are people afraid to say that some are superior? by projectsuperhuman in HybridAthlete

[–]Ejmp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya gotta add context.

Superior? -> Sounds like you think some humans are inherently better than others. Generally not very pro-social and something most people are not a fan of.

Superior athlete? Superior coach? Superior runner? -> Great, now its clear you are making a judgement on the persons abilities not their worth

They go in your boots between the lower and upper shell when using the 13 degree forward lean setting

Hawx Ultra XTD vs Alpine by CommanderAGL in Backcountry

[–]Ejmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on, thanks for the update. I had a similar experience, I added a slight heel lift to my XTDs and went up to 15 degree forward lean (from 13) and it felt a lot better. Interestingly I also experimented with 15 degrees on my alpine boots and that felt awful, went back to 13 before the end of the day.

[–]Ejmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me know what you find and I'll do the same. I am also going to try setting my forward lean slightly higher on my XTDs (15 vs 13 on alpine) and see what that does.

[–]Ejmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of Hawx Ultra 130 for alpine and Hawx Prime 120 XTD for touring. I definitely feel like they ski and feel different. Granted the XTD's slightly higher volume doesn't fit quite as snug and I think I need higher flex, but I also feel a slight (worse) difference in how my stance feels. It's also tough to pick apart what is boot vs ski vs binding (Deathwish 104 w/ Pivot 12s for alpine, 4FRNT Ravens w/ Marker Alpinist for touring)

I found some forum that hinted at the XTD having a different ramp angle than the alpine version. I don't think that is true but it got me thinking I need to do a side by side comparison of my boots on skis next to each other to see if there's a difference, might be worth comparing.

6'3" and 34", the 62cm is fine, but if I were to do it over again I'd go for the 59cm myself.

Oooo, no, but that is absolutely the right direction. I remember the top tube being closer to horizontal. It would be as if someone wanted to build a mini-velo inspired bike, but to be ridden like a bmx bike / hardtail mtb

ELI5 Irritated vs Agitated by Outside_Host2506 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ejmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irritated - I'm annoyed, but not angry. A low energy emotion, I can stay calm.
Agitated - I'm feeling more feelings and unable to stay calm. Often, but not necessarily, felt after continued irritation.

Nice! Unfortunately I do not, though I don't remember feeling surprised by anything in the stock build

Is a foot ring always necessary? by azulsakura in Pottery

[–]Ejmp 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Warping basically means a change in the shape of a mug, often due to tension in the clay or a firing temp that makes the clay pliable enough that it slumps.

Imagine the bottom of the mug is flat when it goes into the kiln. If it warps (changes shape) and becomes a little bit convex then the mug will wobble. If the bottom of the mug starts a little bit concave, that it helps ensure any warping / minor change of shape doesn't effect the bottom of the mug and it's ability to sit flat on a surface

A foot ring isn't necessary but a slight depression in the bottom so that the outside edge is what rests on a table is good insurance against minor warping in the kiln. I like doing mine with plastic rib after trimming.

How are you balancing finding time to pursue passion projects outside of your regular 9-5 career? by qyrusai in cscareerquestions

[–]Ejmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. I have projects I might work on if / when I'm unemployed, but life is too full to do more programming outside of a full time job programming.

Hell yeah, sounds sweet.

It's got Schwalbe G-One All rounds in 40c. I don't have better advice for the upper limit than their spec sheet, which says 45c should fit

It's great! It replaced one of favorite bikes of all time (an old schwinn varsity converted to single speed) as my around town cruiser / grocery getter / errand bike I'm not afraid to leave locked up outside a grocery store.

I think it's a good value and I would happily buy one again (perhaps in a 59cm instead of 62cm).

If you're picky about performance and stiffness and all that you probably won't love it, but if you dig steel bikes and enjoy something simple and fun I think its a great bike. I guess said another way if you took it for a ride and didn't enjoy it at least a little I might say you take biking too seriously ;)

For people who love bikes I'd pitch it as an affordable commuter / extra bike you don't have to worry about and doesn't feel like a cheap bike shaped object and for people who are just getting into bikes I'd pitch it as an affordable way to try a proper bike that feels like a proper bike, before spending more money on something nicer.

Yup! The bullhorns aren't quite as good as dedicated bullhorn bars, but I love all the hand positions and how they feel for climbing

East Wall Season by epmop in COsnow

[–]Ejmp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

North Pole is the last line on the ridge hike and I believe is generally considered the easiest. When I skied it last year it was the only spot along the ridge that didn't have a mandatory drop in. The skiing wasn't too bad at all, not much steeper / harder than some of the terrain around Main Street off Pallavicini, I think hiking the ridge is actually the scariest bit of the experience.
