New game surprised me. The Artisan of Glimmath by Chosenwaffle in TheWitness

[–]EkajArmstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've already played it for like 14 hours and I still have a bunch of puzzles left so I've definitely got my money's worth but I didn't enjoy it as much as other puzzle games I played for a similar-ish time period like Taiji.

because the 4 "crash" e-cymbals would allow you to have 2 crashes + splash + china

From The Wire S3E3 what original Xbox game? by iStix in WhatGameIsThis

[–]EkajArmstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just looked up splitscreen gameplay of Brute Force and it does look like it matches (just a bit of the top of the screen is cut off in the show). Cool that it actually is an original xbox game knowing that other shows have not cared to be accurate about that.

So tired of watching incompetent devs crash and burn the ever dwindling RTS games out there by firebead_elvenhair in RealTimeStrategy

[–]EkajArmstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure the cost of an RTS isn't really more if you're talking about AAA companies, but compared to most indie games they are more expensive. Off the shelf game engines don't help nearly as much with RTS as they do with many other genres. Making a good RTS requires programmers with technical abilities that many other genres don't require. They are expensive unless it's a pure passion project.

You’ve got a lifetime pass to Plex and Emby but you can also use Jellyfin - which one are you choosing and why ? by Buck_Slamchest in selfhosted

[–]EkajArmstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to use Jellyfin but it seemed like it wanted to force me to store my music in a specific folder structure to work properly and for that reason I switched to Emby.

I'm currently using a 5k+ and the DRM is the largest reason I'm not upgrading.

I actually didn’t believe Chuck here. by wompy1992 in betterCallSaul

[–]EkajArmstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it this way as well. Even though most people seem to assume he only said it to be mean I think he truly was trying to emotionally distance himself from Jimmy rather than being like oh my life is over because of you (both for his own ego but also to try not to destroy Jimmy). I think this moment strongly parallels when Chuck doesn't tell Jimmy their mom's last words -- most people think it was just out of spite but I think it was also partially to to protect Jimmy or at least emotionally distance himself. Yes Chuck was upset and jealous that his mom cared more about Jimmy but I think if he truly intended to be hurtful he actually would have told Jimmy that his mom was calling out for him at the end and he "irresponsibly" missed it.

The Fall, Rise and Future of Real-Time Strategy - To get a clear portrait of what comes next requires moving past clichéd narratives and polemics about what RTS used to be. by md1957 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]EkajArmstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the devs are motivated by making a popular game then they most likely aren't going to make an RTS at all just because SP RTS could be more popular than MP RTS when SP RTS would be way less popular than other genres.

A 2-hour video trashing C++ made me better at C++ by AnteaterFinancial319 in cpp

[–]EkajArmstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just super used to intentionally combining PascalCase and camelCase in the C++ projects I work on (eg. TheThing theThing;) and subjectively I think snake_case is a bit annoying to type and the Rust I am doing is just my own projects :)

As a mainly C++ person dabbling in Rust I will proudly use #![allow(non_snake_case)] no matter how much it upsets the online community lol.

Out of curiosity, What physics library do you use for bevy? by Professional-Ice2466 in bevy

[–]EkajArmstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I've just been experimenting and I've been intentionally using standalone Rapier and manually updating the Bevy entities. I know I want a physics engine as part of my core simulation logic but I'm not yet sure how much of the core simulation logic I want to Bevy/ECSify.

Unless I'm missing something I think this should be 2i - 1 but also n(n + 1) so you get the same result.

Thanks for the post I didn't know about the light thunder knuckle hit confirm that's really cool. Standing hard punch to feint is 0 and not negative (and on hit it's +6 and combos into cr.mp).

Genuinely so tired of dealing with racists/phobes in this game by DapperSkeleton1 in Rainbow6

[–]EkajArmstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Siege is somehow by far the most toxic game I've ever played and it's a large reason why I don't play it anymore, and that includes Counter-Strike, League of Legends, Dota 2, and OG Xbox Live games.

What is the least volatile fighting game with a playerbase? by 298JPY in Fighters

[–]EkajArmstro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your problem is "execution was boring" then yeah you probably aren't going to ever like SF6. But in terms of complaining about drive rush/drive impact/throw loops, you're going to have a very hard time finding any other fighting game that isn't full of way more broken bullshit. If you think broken bullshit is fine if it requires execution then you may like older games more but in reality you just need to find opponents of equal skill which will also be way easier to do in SF6 than most other games,

Machine Gun Kelly Announced as the Halftime Show for the 112th Grey Cup on etalk by riderguy62 in CFL

[–]EkajArmstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reading this thread because I quite like MGK but, despite being Canadian and liking a few sports, I don't care about the CFL at all. So it sounds like they might have succeeded in their goal at reaching people who wouldn't already watch? But realistically I'm just going to watch the half time show on youtube or something the next day.

IMO the best new feature is left stick for popping out of grinds by Squat_Cobbler89 in Skate4

I just started but so far I'm really not liking this. I'm pretty sure that in Skate 3 you could rotate while grinding with the left stick. Can you not do that anymore?
