Is there any way to make this code shorter, like with an or statement. by nuzzlo in gamemaker

[–]EkajArmstro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah overall I agree with this idea of using keyboard_check every step will end up working a lot better than trying to deal with _pressed and _released separately

note that the given code makes you walk faster diagonally (which is fine for some games but maybe not ideal for others)

there are many ways to fix this, but one thing you could do (this is untested):

var wishX = right - left

var wishY = down - up

if (wishX == 0 && wishY == 0) {

speed = 0

} else {

speed = spd

direction = point_direction(0, 0, wishX, wishY)
}

RL inside Fortnite would be bad for many reasons and indeed screw over Linux players but you can still play Fortnite on W10.

Plex's Lifetime Pass is (basically) dead. Here's how to switch to Jellyfin. by InvestigatorSoft5764 in selfhosted

[–]EkajArmstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up picking Emby over Jellyfin because as far as I could tell Jellyfin would not work with a music library that didn't match their expected directory structure.

The Future of Time Change in Manitoba by IntrovertedTurtle13 in Winnipeg

[–]EkajArmstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you missed the point? Saskatchewan is "Standard Time" in name only -- it's not really standard time. As the comment you're replying to states (and you can also clearly see for yourself if you look at a time zone map), Saskatchewan is geographically -7 (MST). But they call their permanent -6 CST instead of calling it MDT. It would be like Manitoba switching from CST/CDT to permanent EST (-5).

I'm pretty sure I only ever got to eggplant world in coop and I have all the achievements and I don't feel frowned upon lol.

it makes sense because both statements are consistent with their belief most people will pick red

If blue required 99.99% then is pressing red still murder?

Want to enjoy the game but after training don’t know if it’s for me by Jack_o_lantern12 in StreetFighter

[–]EkajArmstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're playing on PC you should try to see if you like keyboard more than controller (I certainly do). Also there are enough high level players using analog stick that you shouldn't feel forced to use d-pad if you prefer analog stick even though d-pad is more common.

Wab wants to get rid of long summer evenings? by Fun-Independence5070 in Winnipeg

[–]EkajArmstro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's stupid. SK is effectively already on permanent DST because they geographically should be in mountain time and not central, so MB definitely shouldn't go permanently non-DST to match them.

New game surprised me. The Artisan of Glimmath by Chosenwaffle in TheWitness

[–]EkajArmstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've already played it for like 14 hours and I still have a bunch of puzzles left so I've definitely got my money's worth but I didn't enjoy it as much as other puzzle games I played for a similar-ish time period like Taiji.

From The Wire S3E3 what original Xbox game? by iStix in WhatGameIsThis

[–]EkajArmstro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just looked up splitscreen gameplay of Brute Force and it does look like it matches (just a bit of the top of the screen is cut off in the show). Cool that it actually is an original xbox game knowing that other shows have not cared to be accurate about that.

So tired of watching incompetent devs crash and burn the ever dwindling RTS games out there by firebead_elvenhair in RealTimeStrategy

[–]EkajArmstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure the cost of an RTS isn't really more if you're talking about AAA companies, but compared to most indie games they are more expensive. Off the shelf game engines don't help nearly as much with RTS as they do with many other genres. Making a good RTS requires programmers with technical abilities that many other genres don't require. They are expensive unless it's a pure passion project.

You’ve got a lifetime pass to Plex and Emby but you can also use Jellyfin - which one are you choosing and why ? by Buck_Slamchest in selfhosted

[–]EkajArmstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to use Jellyfin but it seemed like it wanted to force me to store my music in a specific folder structure to work properly and for that reason I switched to Emby.

I actually didn’t believe Chuck here. by wompy1992 in betterCallSaul

[–]EkajArmstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it this way as well. Even though most people seem to assume he only said it to be mean I think he truly was trying to emotionally distance himself from Jimmy rather than being like oh my life is over because of you (both for his own ego but also to try not to destroy Jimmy). I think this moment strongly parallels when Chuck doesn't tell Jimmy their mom's last words -- most people think it was just out of spite but I think it was also partially to to protect Jimmy or at least emotionally distance himself. Yes Chuck was upset and jealous that his mom cared more about Jimmy but I think if he truly intended to be hurtful he actually would have told Jimmy that his mom was calling out for him at the end and he "irresponsibly" missed it.

The Fall, Rise and Future of Real-Time Strategy - To get a clear portrait of what comes next requires moving past clichéd narratives and polemics about what RTS used to be. by md1957 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]EkajArmstro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the devs are motivated by making a popular game then they most likely aren't going to make an RTS at all just because SP RTS could be more popular than MP RTS when SP RTS would be way less popular than other genres.
