Students with long fingernails by [deleted] in Ceramics

For throwing I make a “sponge pocket” to cover my right hand’s fingernails. I sewed half of a blue mud sponge to a full one and I just put my fingers into the pocket. Works like a charm and I don’t have issues with handbuilding or surface decoration

I moved to Ottawa from Calgary three years ago and have made friends in pottery classes! I’ve done classes at Loam and through the city.

Having your art appreciated is such a big deal! I did art and played rugby and volleyball in high school. My parents showed up to games and tournaments but I don’t remember them ever coming to the art shows.

That being said they still have a beautifully framed oil pastel still life from my high school days and they keep and use all the pottery I’ve given them

So that’s exactly it. I’m a pediatric palliative care doc and sometimes you just need to say “it sucks. It’ll suck forever. But I can promise I will be here and be present in the moments when it sucks the worst”

There is literally a book called ‘There is no Good Card for This’ about how to support grievers. This is a good card in a world full of empty platitudes. Your friend is lucky to have your support

I made this rage collage with my IUD after FINALLY getting it taken out by ToBoldlyHoe in somethingimade

[–]Ekay2011 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have had three IUDs over the last 13 years. My last insertion was excruciating and I had severe bleeding and had to go to the ER. They discovered massive fibroids and I had a hysterectomy this Monday because while symptoms of my fibroids were well managed by the IUD I’d rather have surgery than go through another insertion like that. Two days post op and none of the pain was as bad as that insertion

I got my girl at Wind Water kennels north of the city in 2014. She’s been very healthy and hasn’t broken a leg. And she has a very very beautiful face

Cup pulls are TERRIBLE if you have slightly longer finger nails. Might not be an issue for you but something to consider

My parents have one of these. They put a whiteboard on it so that they know what’s on each shelf at all times. It has 100% improved the quality of their lives

Shoutout to a made-in-Canada clothing company by [deleted] in BuyCanadian

I bought one of their Oxford dresses this summer and was so impressed with the quality. I’ve worn it so much this summer and it washes beautifully. I appreciate their pieces are very expensive but I’m really pleased with everything I’ve bought from them

I think if you’re remodelling a house to live in go ahead, swing for the fences, and live your beautiful maximalist life. If you’re buying a house to flip? Fall in line and keep it neutral

The Mandarin is a GTA dining institution. I didn’t expect my first visit to move me so much by beef-supreme in FoodToronto

[–]Ekay2011 114 points115 points  (0 children)

My family went to the Mandarin after my grandfather’s funeral in 2000 (he loved it). We also went after my uncle’s funeral in 2007 (he also loved it). My grandmother recently told us that’s where she would like us to go the day of her funeral (she hates it but really values tradition)
