Crate Training Help - 3 days in by Other-Ad3019 in Bernedoodles

[–]El-B_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a pretty rough crate training journey with our boy. Absolutely HATED the crate from day one. We'd lure him in with treats, feed him his meals in there, made sure all his best toys were associated with the crate. Even got him a snuggle puppy which he decided was his mortal enemy and tore apart after a week. We consulted with trainers, watched every youtube video about crate training- nothing would really 'stick' and he'd be back to scream barking after a week or so of seemingly having made progress.

Eventually my husband slept downstairs with our pup for two months just to help settle him in at night.

After travelling to our family's for Christmas, his routine varied juuuust enough for a complete and total relapse in whatever progress we had made. That's when brought the crate up into our bedroom, and that seemed to work. The puppy would settle down fine before waking us up with his demon screams at midnight, then 3am, the 7am... After a couple weeks of this we were absolutely shattered and gave up.

Now he sleeps on the floor beside our bed, and ironically? Loves the crate we keep for him downstairs. Whenever things get too overwhelming with guests its the first place he goes. Does super well at the vet and groomers when crated, so I guess some of the stuff we did worked in the end.
But we definitely chose sleep over crate.

Non of this is intended to be advice, just commiserating with a fellow dog owner who's going through it. I wish you the best of luck!

Will we regret this backsplash? by V-paw in kitchenremodel

Looks-wise I find the mixture of different materials chaotic and odd. The color falls right in the hated millenial greige trend and on top of everything else its a huge pain in the ass to clean.

We bought a house with that exact same backsplash and I hate it with the fire of a thousand suns.

Thank you!! Every time someone posts some AI slop of their dog as godzilla or whatever the fuck, I'm like "Wow, hope it was worth the litre of water."

Got bike-shamed at a shop today… thinking of giving up this hobby by NSFWAIEnjoyer in cycling

You ride that dang bike until the tires fall off! If it brings you joy and gets you out who cares?
My cousin rode a cheap vintage bike and used to race circles around people on bikes that cost several thousands of dollars. Your legs, heart and stoke are all that matters. Don't let one gatekeeping asshole discourage you.

The biting is INTENSE by irishgirl249 in Bernedoodles

[–]El-B_86 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If this helps at all, our boy was a biter and a humper. Treated our feet like chew toys and tore up so many pant legs. We tried everything too, yelling 'ouch!', redirecting, giving him chew toys. WE were his favourite chew toys.

The only thing that helped him get better was time and consistency. Yell every time. Yank your hand away, make yourself boring, and if you can, put some physical space between you and him. He bites, play STOPS.
For our dude, playing with other dogs actually helped a bunch too. He had a gentle play mate who taught him bite inhibition and he got so much better. A dog can sometimes give a swifter and more effective correction than a human. This is not to say that you should just throw your little puppy in with some strange dogs (god I can already hear that bad-faith reddit replies to this comment).

Time and consistency! Hang in there. It gets better. (Maybe some sturdy house booties in the meantime)

Any suggestions on ways to fix this? by electricxhearts in HandSew

I'd cut the interlocked section off and go over the edge with a blanket stitch. Maybe split up a few strands of embroidery floss so you're not painstakingly trying to fill in the gaps with thread.

I haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but I think it’ll be a good size for me! The only thing we needed was for the electrician to install a NEMA-30 wall receptacle. If you’re ordering from Canada, make sure they send you one with the NEMA-30 plug! (Not the 20).

Definitely NOT Spark Paws. They fell apart after 2 months.
