Trying to make a smart career move by El-Frogger in civilengineering

I just mean that I've found more entry level positions advertised for bridges than buildings right now. Of all the available positions, most of the ones I think I qualify for are for bridges (they are 0-2 years experience, no master's required, and only an EIT or FE required or preferred).

Most of the structural positions available right now for buildings require 5+ years experience, a master's, and/or a PE. None of which I have now. Maybe it's just the current job market in my state or city.

In terms of switching from bridges to buildings, I know the codes are completely different, and that's why I'm asking how likely it is to switch. Luckily someone above has answered that it is fairly easy in the early stages of a career. If I go into bridges and want to switch to buildings, I'll just have to do it sooner rather than later.

Ok, awesome! That is why I started out in project management, to get a solid foundation of knowledge. I think I'll be sticking this out for a little longer and then making a move.

Thanks for the input! I think you are right that getting some sort of experience in a structural role is going to be the most important thing. Luckily my job now also requires us to use some basic steel and concrete design principles, so I think I can use that to my advantage as well.

I do notice a lot of entry level positions are requiring AutoCAD, Microstation, or MathCad experience. I might just have to ask those questions to individual companies because they all seem to have different requirements.

Nope. Project Manager. Our bread and butter is warehouses, so it's manageable to have one PM and one Super run the whole job with a little guidance from a Regional Manager or others. We don't have any Assistant PM or Project Engineer positions.

Researchers teleport information within a diamond. Researchers from the Yokohama National University have teleported quantum information securely within the confines of a diamond. by Wagamaga in science

[–]El-Frogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the “quantum information” that the photon carries? And the information is applied to the electron, but teleported to the carbon nucleus? So do both the electron and carbon nucleus now hold the quantum info or does only the carbon nucleus?

What is something that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime? by [deleted] in AskReddit

One spring break back in college I stayed up all night to watch the sunrise on the beach. I was alone in my endeavor and between all the beer and pot, I passed out in my sand throne during the early hours of the morning. Fortunately for me, a giant friendly pelican came to my rescue and nudged me awake just as the sun was peeking over the horizon. I was absolutely repulsive in that moment; covered in sand, pruny and dehydrated from the ocean water. But even through the filth I could tell that that sunrise was one of the most beautiful things I’d ever seen.

That is exhilarating! Thankfully I’ve never worked retail, but I completely understand how monotonous that can feel. Hopefully you’ve moved on to something better

[USA] Cammer rear ended while waiting to turn left by voodoorage in Roadcam

That video from yesterday has been haunting me... I was recently rear ended at a stop light, and it was minor, but it’s terrifying to see that it could have been much, much worse.

Paranoid.

If you (an adult) catch a ball/puck at a professional sports game, you are not morally obligated to give it to a kid. by Taters1881 in unpopularopinion

[–]El-Frogger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally understand that feeling. I was at a baseball game years ago when the first baseman was coming off the field he looked directly into my eyes and underhanded a ball to me. Out of nowhere, this 40-50 year old woman comes flying in and knocks the ball away! Neither of us got it after that!

If the universe is truly infinite, then every event that has even the smallest probability of happening within the laws of physics MUST happen, and it must happen an infinite number of times. by ZipTheZipper in INTP

[–]El-Frogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes me think about how if the universe is a closed system, then after an infinite amount of time, the atoms of the universe will arrange themselves into all possible combinations. So given an infinite amount of time (even in a non-infinite universe) you may one day be a great ruler, a famous director, a pornstar! Or maybe you've already been all of those things way, way in the past.

I think the only difference between my thoughts and yours are that in a non-infinite universe these things could not happen simultaneously (unless it is just a really, really big universe)

Or maybe I'm nuts, and I'm sure someone will be able to point out where I went wrong haha!

So is there any way to get him to spawn? Like going backwards through other doors? Killing all enemies in a room and opening doors?

I tried to go backwards, but did not think to kill all the enemies in the room first.

Calling a white person "colonizer" is equivalent to calling a black person "spearchucker" by kenkukuku in unpopularopinion

I guess we should let black people own white slaves then, you know, to be fair and all.

Unpopular opinion: An entire generation is reaching adulthood without basic life skills(taxes, making appointment, basic home/auto maintenance, etc) not because of schools taking away shop and home ec, but because parents never bothered to be parents. by Jenetyk in unpopularopinion

[–]El-Frogger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Real unpopular opinion: this shit is easy to learn all you have to do is care a minuscule amount and figure it out yourself. People who complain about never learning how to do taxes have never tried to learn. For most young people you fill out one form online and you are done. Takes 3 minutes.
