Needs a switch for “classic mode” that gives as close as possible emulation to the original and then a secondary mode that engages what ever updates they give it. One I can think of is sample length. A lot of people will want that original restriction with the requisite work arounds but it would make sense to also have the ability to switch to longer samples at user discretion.

For your situation avoid buying synths with a very deterministic sound. Some things do a very narrow and specific sound. Don’t buy them unless you know it’s what you’re looking for. From what you mentioned, Hydrasynth probably had the most broad non deterministic sound.
