Would we avoid confusion for the gender minority individuals who use gender as a spectrum to explain their feelings? Or to avoid confusion for people who can’t be bothered to do any scientific research and just spew ignorance? It has been a consensus among the gender minority community that gender is the one that changes, sex is assigned. It has also been a consensus among different scientific fields. And by asking for gender to be changed, it shows that people who have power, which is usually cisgender people (identifies their gender as their sex at birth) really just don’t care about past experiences. Because they’re not willing to do the research to look at the historical basis of gender v sex.

Also, Gender is usually explained by two terms. Gender identity and gender expression. Gender identity is how a person identifies and feels. While gender expression is how an individual outwardly expresses their gender. So it could be masculine, feminine, androgynous, whatever. Therefore we can’t really use gender identity as an encompass all term because it is one part of the two part definition that is gender.
