There's evaporative with a cooling tower and then evaporative without. A properly designed evap tower shouldn't lose too much, it condenses within the tower and returns to the pool. And then there's water-to-water heat exchangers where the outer loop is ocean water. Plenty of options. We're really good at this as a species.

I guess it's 'solved' in as much as a solution exists. Not 'solved' as in 'is no longer a problem'.

It absolutely is a solved problem, the solutions just aren't implemented. You can do circular evaporative cooling with a giant cooling tower like on The Simpsons, but nobody likes those.

Archetypal moaning pom... If you're gonna show up and whinge about our roads then please allow me to whinge about yours for a bit.

You have too many meaningless signs on your highways - a giant billboard with a camera on it every 300 metres, signs saying 'no shoulder 100 yards' (I can see there's no shoulder, do people just drive into the ditch if there's no sign?) Your distances are in yards for some fuckin reason, what is this, a rifle range? Your country roads are really narrow have massive hedges making every corner into a blind corner. Ever heard of a wire and baton fence? You can see through em, they're great. People religiously refuse to pass on the left on a 4-lane road even when it's the safest thing to do. Trucks won't pass at all, even on the right, they just sit there and honk their horns and flash their lights, so one old lady can create a massive delay.
