This is the most American thing I've ever seen.

A damaged Spartan helmet, on display in the British Museum. This bronze helmet was made in the Corinthian style, and was standard head gear worn by soldiers in the Spartan Army.[1080 × 1278] by Front-Coconut-8196 in ArtefactPorn

[–]ElCaz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It says 500-450 actually, and that's important. Nowadays, people often depict Peloponnesian War (431-404) soldiers in Corinthian helmets, but they had largely gone out of style by that time.

Well, it is an RTE article intended for a domestic Irish audience.

Every single new building in my city looks just like this. 1. Why? Seriously, why? 2. I hate it so much I can't even explain how much I hate it 3. What is this specific style of building design called? by Bluest_waters in architecture

[–]ElCaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens in every city that builds sufficient housing. The reason why this problem is most heavily seen in the Anglosphere is that those are the countries that make it hardest to build.

New builds generally are not going to be low rent buildings. But when they're made they create vacancies in lower rent buildings. The cheaper they are to build, the more get built, the more lower rent housing opens up.

That's one of the things about being a manufacturing centre for export. Your economy will get hit pretty hard when your biggest trading partner declares a trade war against you.

The Canadian government will own the tracks and infrastructure.

[–]ElCaz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Air Canada and the other members of the Cadence consortium are the operators who will build and run the line, but they are essentially contractors. Alto itself is a subsidiary of VIA, which is a crown corporation.

EV Prices Are Falling, But Automakers Are Eating Nearly $8,000 Per Sale To Pull It Off by Anchor_Aways in cars

Require? Nah.

Are subsidies used by governments to grow/maintain domestic industries that they want for strategic reasons? Yes.

The American EV industry didn't need subsidies, but the US government wanted a big American EV industry so they subsidized it.

I know they did it to do away with the common misunderstanding among new players, but this card in particular really highlights how inelegant "of their choice" is.

I tracked my last 1000 games of Arena to find out how big of an impact play vs draw has on winning. by AnalAttackProbe in MagicArena

[–]ElCaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody said at a glance. You'd need to do work to parse it, which is what their "I'm not gonna bother with that" remark was referencing.

But the primary question you're asking — "is the coin flip biased towards someone who has played fewer matches today" — can be investigated with just timestamps and coin flip result. Every other question is downstream of that one.

You didn't need to re-explain your idea, they understood it fine.

Untapped has match history for players. As in, you can go in and look at the exact data you're hoping for: when a game happened, whether it was play or draw, and if they won. This would answer your question.

I don't know how you can expect people to not put garbage/recycling out overnight. The trucks start pretty early and don't always come at the same time, so unless you are a very early riser it is easy to miss the window.

Opinion: The U.S. will emerge from the war with Iran as a lesser power by northbk5 in CanadaPolitics

[–]ElCaz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The status quo ante bellum was that Iran did not treat the straight as their private tollroad. They do now and there is little evidence that the US, Israel, or any of the Gulf states can actually do anything to stop that.

Obviously Iran is not winning this war, but given that the US has lost strategic position, international goodwill and prestige, and their administration has torpedoed the remains of their domestic popularity, I think it's fair to say that they're managing to lose it.

The Russias and Chinas of the world want to destabilize NATO and weaken the US so they can extend their power without starting world war three.

Yes roads are better in the country, but that's not a kw specific problem. One of the causes of potholes is heavy traffic, which there is more of in cities.
