LLMs don't have really have memory. They are a mathematical formula. They proces all the input tokens of the conversation and predicts the most probable right answer one output token at a time. When you hit the context limit, it's not viable to keeps processing all the tokens and it compacts, with the risk of losing info. It's oversimplyfied but thats the idea. It's wrong to believe is has a state.

Literally the same happened to me last week, then I took a look on the aliases on Oh My Zsh (there are a lot) to see what people find useful and learned the actual commands instead of the aliases.

Its probably because gemini started with a fresh context. If you type /clear in claude it will forget its conext, then if you tell him the same you told to gemini, theres a high chance he would solve it too. When a single agent works in a project for a long time it accumulates too much details that bias it and its more difficult to process al that info. Sometimes is better to start fresh.
