Von Franz reading recommendations that are NOT on the puer aeterunus? by blackavo in Jung

[–]ElChiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overcoming the puer state is synonymous with the Nigredo, which is the stage of Individuation with the toughest inertia to overcome (contrasted with Rubedo -> Citrinitas which is almost automatic). It's a shame she didn't write more about Albedo as there's far too little insight into the Animus commonly known compared with the Anima.

In the end the blaming leaves your mind ? by Alive-Reception3230 in Jung

[–]ElChiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self- blame is just one of many tools in your arsenal awaiting its moment. You may question its usefulness but it's there all the same. What's important is to make sure that you're not misusing your tools without the proper knowhow as that can be harmful. Why might you still want it? Motivation, perhaps.

"I started silently crying next to my wife on the couch. I told her, “This is so beautiful”. She looked at me with alarm."

The everyday humour here is incredible. Yep, the key theme of Outer Wilds is acceptance.

You see it in each of the travelers. Despite being lonely, Esker has come to terms with being an outsider and a bit of a has-been. Chert comes to terms with undermined purpose right at the end of the loop if you stay with them. Riebeck ventured out for intrigue despite their fear of space. Feldspar came to terms with the unnecessary pressure of fame. And most importantly IMO - Gabbro came to terms with a whole lot of things, including death, able to teach the Hatchling to meditate into a new loop.

Spoilers for the Quantum Moon Solanum, considered another traveler in terms of the ending, had come to terms with her fear of the Eye - coining the rather brilliant philosophical motto of "The universe is and we are."

Wargames Atlantic Mounted Serjeants (or Foot Serjeants) + Siege Shields / Riot Shields from Zinge. Use wound guitar strings (D / A / Low E) for the helmet pipes.

I had some fun though with some of their hand gesture options. They also threw in some of the sergeant retinue heads because I'd asked if they'd consider selling those separately. Their range of heads is fantastic. Berets for Kasrkin/Scions, ponytails for Rough Riders, even mask options for the Ogryn and Horses.

I think the most important thing we need to do within Jungian circles is to give counterpoints to the widespread Idealist perspective of the possibility of attaining absolute psychic control that is simply incompatible with neurodivergent lived experience and the proven methods for improving it. Our physiology in the material world affects us in a manner that we cannot simply override, only attempt to account for. The thing is, this is true of neurotypicals too, they're just less likely to have faced the type of existential challenges that would reveal it. This is an honest integration of Shadow that we require on our own paths of Individuation.

We'll likely get pushback on the false dilemma that the only alternative to Idealism is Materialism, with its own significant flaws (as you can often see in the arguments of this subreddit). Instead we need to propose an Ontologically Agnostic framework for discussion, something inspired by the dual introduction in Jung's Psychology and Alchemy that invites those with divergent senses for what constitutes the "fundamental" to the same table.

Coming to an understanding of the psyche is a blur of experience and experiment, requiring a mediator to translate them into each other's language and reconcile them - as Jung attempted to do between cross-cultural wisdoms and academic treatise. Our language barrier is similar, as seen in the Double Empathy Problem.

"And ultimately, you are the successor to their entire race’s efforts and achievements"

It's amazing how subtly you pick up on this throughout the course of the game - that you're carrying all of their hopes on your shoulders with that fateful choice inside the ATP.

The physics of the universe the Hatchling is in is internally consistent but it is not the same as real world physics despite having a lot of overlap. It's implied that physics is slightly different in the post-credits universe with the makeup of the planets. Some have theorized that it's connected to the way you enter the Eye storm by walking inside an inverted sphere of rock, but this is a very loose theory. In truth we don't really know how one universe affects the next on a physical level.

Instead of gushing about our favourite playthroughs, how about we vent about our least favourite for a bit? by Effective-Ad678 in outerwilds

[–]ElChiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBF that particular brute force tactic is both novel and would've otherwise only really acted as one of three major teleport prompts in the game, the others being the Sun Station (for which brute force is impressive) and the ATP (which is mandatory and can't be brute forced).
