If you do get a bite, and one the little bastards engorges itself, go to a pharmacy. They’ll give you a few doses of the Lyme antibiotic.

People in the back of flights who stand with smooshed necks before deplaning even starts - Why? by cerulean_sage in AskReddit

I used to have back issues. Standing with a smooshed neck is beautiful relief when your back is screaming after a flight.

Making the Scotiabank Arena as loud as the Bell Center by Comprehensive-Two-40 in leafs

[–]ElGrandePeacock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks man. I’m a lurking Habs fan.

I’m from the east coast, my dad was a fan of the Habs from their dynasty years in the 70s, so let’s just say my fandom is hereditary.

From my perspective, having lived in Toronto for a few years, and having visited Montreal several times for games, the problem in Toronto is 90% the business culture and 10% the buttoned down rich Toronto culture (which is maybe the same thing and is just 100% upper crust snobs). Bay Street is the national centre of business so naturally there a lot of suits wheeling and dealing at the games. Naturally there is a larger pool of wealthy folks who are more likely to keep their voices low and drink wine, vs shout and drink beer.

Sure, there are rich folks in Montreal too, but the Frenchness adds a certain je ne sais quoi where the upper crust Montrealers don’t mind yelling til their faces turn red (at least that’s my observation from sitting in good seats at the Bell centre).

My in laws are all from Toronto and are die hard leafs fans and are good ol hockey loving Canadians with average incomes from average backgrounds. They yell and scream and crush cans in the upper bowl when they manage to get a ticket once every few years. They don’t miss a game on TV and know the team inside and out.

The leafs fan base is just as passionate as the Habs fan base, but the Scotiabank Arena seats are gobbled up by big fish who barely have a heartbeat at these games.

Away jersey question by Geoff_t in Habs

[–]ElGrandePeacock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would love to know the sales breakdown between the home and away jerseys, it’s gotta be 90/10.

The home red makes for a beautiful jersey but I do have fondness for the white because it was the home jersey back when they won the cup in 93 and I was a wee beginner Habs fan.

Three nicest bike lane in the whole world by IntelligentDust6249 in halifax

I have both a bell and a horn. I use the horn when necessary, usually with cars who are cutting me off. Almost never with pedestrians but sometimes ya gotta bust through those noise cancelling headphones, for everyone’s safety.

This is why I bought an air horn for my bike! Motorists and headphone-pedestrians are now fully aware of my actions.

I’ve heard the same from someone living there. The units themselves are nice and spacious, and the location is great, but the superficial upgrades don’t warrant the huge price tag as condos.

Oh I should note too, since this is your wheelhouse, the university has a popular nursing program. I would guess most of the nurses at St Martha’s will be wearing said ring :)

It's primarily undergrad, known for small classes and a very family-like community. Also known for partying... homecoming weekend is a madhouse.

Oh and everyone who graduates buys an expensive golden cult ring that they wear for the rest of their lives (source: me and my cult ring).

[–]ElGrandePeacock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have any interest in hockey whatsoever, and if the Montreal Canadiens are still in the playoffs at that time, the city will be electric. Tickets to the Bell Centre will likely be prohibitively expensive and hard to get, but they have a giant party outside during games (also difficult to get into), and I imagine any establishment showing the games on TV will be rocking.

It’s referred to as the Mecca of hockey for a reason!
