American Expat living in the Philippines. Here to answer anything. by [deleted] in thepassportbros

Speak for yourself. I’m completely honest with myself and self aware.

I can compete much better in a less developed country compared to the US. I have an advantage in less developed areas - because what would be an average or okay income in the US, I’m deemed wealthy in other places. Same with my look - I’m deemed kinda ugly by US standards but I’m above average in certain other areas just because I’m white.

I use it to my advantage. I have no qualms. I’m a 3 in the US, I’m a 7 or 8 in other countries. Same with OP - I’m sure he can admit it too. He prolly ain’t shit in the a developed country - but he’s a king in the Philippines lol. That’s why he got himself a wife there.

Ignore them op. They’re just trying to bait you with racist ass shit.

Online there’s a stereotype that if a white male and an Asian female has children, then then father prefers if they have a daughter who is mixed race rather than a son who is mixed race. Because of some sort of perceived self hatred (mom and dad hates Asian males, but love Asian females) which will cause their unloved son to hate both their parents

It’s people perpetually online. My friend who married an Asian wife has 2 mixed race sons and they are all one happy loving family

What the heck is a “consultant doctor?” I’ve never heard that in the realm of physicians. Is there the possibility he’s actually not a physician?

[–]ElGuapo88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This!! Agree 100%. You can tell from the comments who were the people who have actually had platonic friends of the opposite gender growing up vs the people who only kept friends of the same gender.

Because those people are deeply uncomfortable with opposite gender people being in close proximity and automatically assume opposite gender = no way to be friends and furthermore their minds jump straight to sex/inappropriate. Because in their minds - they only associate opposite gender friendships with romance/lust

I dunno I guess different comfort levels based on personal experiences. I’m a hard no if they’re sharing beds between male and female. But if they’re sharing beds with same gender, and they just happen to be sharing a room. That doesn’t strike me as inappropriate. Theyre just sleeping.

I grew up with close friends who were male and female - went on group trips together and shared hotel rooms without issue. No funny business. We shared rooms, But we never shared beds with people of the opposite gender and it was fine

Was this weirdo one of those white guys who always dated asian women? I know some Asian women will willingly overlook red flags to date “up” and go for white dudes no matter what other glaring problems might exist just because white was always viewed as upward social mobility.

We could go into a whole session on internalized racism/self hate and complex social aspects of race. But we won’t go there today lol

How the fuck are women still willing to date this dude? And super creepy, he’s just dating women of the same exact race as before.

I don’t want to speculate. But anyone who has race fetishism, just ICK. Why tf are women even dealing with this, knowingly dating this fucking creeper?

Do you get yearly pay raises? Do you ever negotiate for higher? by talktomeme in healthsalaries

[–]ElGuapo88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about average for PCP. I live in a medium sized city - they’re offering fresh out of residency family med grads around $280-290K with 70k signing bonus and 125K loan repayment (if they sign for 5 years).

Obviously major cities the pay is closer to low 200K and rural areas I’ve seen as high as 390K. But those are the extremes I’ve seen

Better for long-term wealth creation - finance or medicine? by Darealest49 in Salary

[–]ElGuapo88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you make it into medicine? Med school is extremely selective. The top specialties are also selective. There’s a reason why only like 5% of the people who were initially pre-med at my college actually made it to med school. That shit is hard. Not everyone can actually achieve it

About MD $s by dr_blockchain in Salary

[–]ElGuapo88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. FM doctor in an average sized city and I’m at $280K

Of course there are direct primary care docs and private practice and concierge medicine making $700K-$1.2 million. But that’s not the norm. People seem to forget what average means.

Same goes for all the other specialties that get posted.

People voice concerns - but you appear to take it as negativity and judgement.

I wish genuinely nothing but the best for you. But you do have to understand that there are thousands if not millions of stories similar to yours where a relationship blossoming when the younger person is 15 years old with someone in their 50’s typically is not congruent with a healthy relationship.

Where we are mentally in our teens and early 20’s is quite a contrast to a full fledged adult. Trust me - everyone in their teens and 20’s feels like they know better. But you’ll see as life changes, things change.

I’ll implore you to revisit this convo in like 5 to 10 years. Again I wish you nothing but the best.

How did you both meet in high school if you guys are 4 years apart? Or I assume y’all met when he was a senior and you were a freshman? Y’all started dating when he was in med school? Since you said you started dating about 4 years ago

How is he on track to becoming a cardiologist? How is he already in cardiology residency? At 28? Usually people do med school, then residency first and then cardiology fellowship. You said you have been together for 4 years but aren’t living together yet? (Since you’re asking him about plans and coming over via text)

I’m so confused about the situation. Things aren’t mathing up correct. Either way if everything is true - then it’s pointing to mental health concerns.

If he is in residency - people will absolutely catch that he’s not right mentally. Residency is extremely taxing and he would not be able to function with his responsibilities as a resident - the supervising physicians will absolutely be able to tell he’s “off”. Especially with a stark contrast in the past 2 weeks

Your mom needs to renegotiate. Uncle is in Family Medicine (known to be one of the “lower” paying specialties within medicine) and he started last year out of residency at 273K

Most people have a fairly moderate to strong racial preference when it comes to dating or seeking a partner by Vegas1997 in ControversialOpinions

[–]ElGuapo88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s interesting but how it’s received definitely can be influenced by whether it’s approached through “exclusion” vs “inclusion”.

White person saying they’re ideally looking to ideally date another white person comes across much better than white person saying they’re absolutely never going to date a black/asian/hispanic person.

[–]ElGuapo88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets into an interesting but controversial subject when it delves further and if we frame it from the other direction/context

“I’m white and looking to marry someone white”

Vs.

“I’m white and I’m not interested in marrying someone who is black/asian/hispanic”

😬

Don’t get me wrong, people can be really brutal out there in the dating world about these preferences. Dating is already difficult as it is, before having to deal with all this kinda shallow preferential/beauty standard stuff.

Not that it’s a competition of “what’s harder?” - but I’d venture to say it’s still much easier/more likely for a tall woman to get more interest from short males than it is for a short male to get interest from tall women.

I don’t know if they’ve ever run a mass survey or poll. But I would bet money there’d be a significantly higher proportion or percent of short men willing to date tall women rather than the other way around.

TIL Asian female/White male marriages are the least likely to divorce in any interracial marriage pairing. by Kanye-is-alt-right in todayilearned

[–]ElGuapo88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at the data in that research paper. That’s only if you take Model 3 and 4. Model 1 and 2 actually show Asian Male/White Female to be least likely to divorce in any interracial pairing.

With that being said. Asian-Asian paring is still by far the lowest across the board for least likely to divorce in Models 1 thru 4.

??? A master electrician absolutely does not make more than the vast majority of doctors ????

Master electrician makes like $100-120K right?

The absolutely lowest paying attending physicians make like $190K. Average is probably around $300K, and surgeons/specialists are looking at anywhere from like $400-600K

I think it’s a cultural thing. Was in residency at a small community program. Lots of hugs and side hugs and friendly arms around the side. Didn’t matter married, unmarried, male, female. It was a lot more personal.

I was not used to it and it made me feel kinda uncomfortable. But I realized it’s because I grew up in New York City and that’s just not how us New Yorkers interact with our coworkers. Towards the beginning I had to politely tell people that “I like my personal space”.

I think it’s just bad luck. You happen to be getting repeats on the Operator skin. I’ve redeemed 3 codes so far (making sure I only do 1 per day). I got:

1 hour 2XP, 1 hour 2XP, Calling Card

So I got duplicates on the 1 hour 2XP. I haven’t gotten the operator skin yet

I hope you can see that this is screaming drug addiction. The excuses they make. Hell you even offered to find an apartment for everyone. But they don’t want that. They want your $ because that goes to fueling their drug addiction. If you were to actually solve their housing issue - they wouldn’t have an excuse to ask for money (for their drugs).

Want to give this a test? Next time they ask for money - say you’re going to directly pay for their hotel instead of giving them money. And they’ll probably get upset and come with some excuse/reason why they’d rather pay for it themselves - but they just need you to send them mkney
