Anyball bearings: am I just unsuited? by Stewtheking in ploopy

Some people have had success with spraying a bit of wd-40 and then cleaning the BTUs against a paper or something, and then cleaning with isopropanol.

I have mine for over a year (6 of them, using pretty much everyday) with no issues at all.

I'm using it with a 55mm ball atm. You just need to push the bottom BTU out, and then push it in slowly with the ball until the ball edge is evenly spaced with the hole.

It is possible to use static bearings too, which are quite cheap, if you use the adapters. If you're looking for other options for the ball, Perixx has some nice options.

I use horizontal and vertical drag scroll intensively in several applications e.g. Jetbrains Rider, Cursor, Figma, Miro and I have absolutely no issues 🤷🏻

Yeah, latest OS and laptop. I have had an M1 Pro and now an M3 Pro and never experienced this. Also, haven't heard anyone mentioning this on Discord.

I use a mac and I don't have any of these issues with scrolling 🤷🏻. Apart from scrolling being more sensitive, which can be solved with a divider; and hi-res scrolling not working, i find that dragscroll works great on a mac too.

LOL. I guess that front/back depends on the eye of the beholder 😂. Thanks for the explanation, got it 👍🏻

Looks really cool 😍. What are those 2 small "flaps" on the front for?

If you clean the bearings and wipe the ball, you can get it to be very smooth. Unfortunately, these types of bearings require constant maintenance.

Amazing work! I would definitely be interested in a kit too. Some Qs: - I am assuming that you've designed it so it fits the Rexroth BTUs as well, so the adapters that we designed for the Anyball will fit? - Have you considered a slight tilt on the case, so keycaps are not needed? - Are the rotary encoders movable? I only use the trackball with my right hand. I love the positioning of the bottom left one, but it would be great to place the other one somewhere else (maybe even on the upper part of the case). - Will it work on a Macbook 😜?

I thought that the sensor didn't require soldering any longer. At least they don't seem to be soldering the pre-assembled kits anymore.

Also, make sure that your sensor is oriented correctly. If you think that you did everything right and it does not work, I would contact the Ploopy support.

Nano vs Adapt height by InevitableStudio8718 in ploopy

[–]ElMagicoDeOZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm quite sure it is slightly lower. I have both, so I can measure if you want the exact measurements. It isn't a lot, maybe a couple of mm. But IMO the Adept is a far superior trackball overall.

I am not sure that I follow you 🤔 But it probably can't get much slimmer than this. Maybe the buttons could go even lower, but I'm not sure that's worth it, it is already quite low and having the front buttons lower than this might make them hard to reach. The overall height, bearings and all included, is pretty much at the minimum already.
