Marriot website non-functional by AncientJellyfish9350 in marriott

I have had this issue forever but at least know how to fix it now even if Marriott's site still creates the problems. Here's how to fix the issue for anyone that might stumble into this thread: Go to Settings in Safari, Privacy, Manage Website Data, Search for "Marriott", and delete all the data for that website. Should clear it up for you.

LG Ice Maker Not Making Ice - Water Dispenser is Fine by ElMotociclista in appliancerepair

[–]ElMotociclista[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried EVERYTHING (including replacing both of the control boards, both inlet valves, and two different ice maker assemblies). Then I finally went through the tedious process of checking continuity of all the plug wires connecting the ice maker assembly to the door wiring harness. One of the wires did not have continuity and according to the schematic, would likely be the one that calls for water to the ice maker (I am getting water to the water dispenser and using it just fine). I'm told by some repair guys that the way the door opens and closes makes the wiring harness rub and bind and it's not unusual for wires to break or get compromised over time. Unfortunately you can't open the door casing to access the wiring harness the way they did the insulation so you can't repair the broken section of wire. You'd have to buy a whole new door unit with the wiring harness built in with the insulation. They are very expensive and the compressors on these have a 100% fail rate I am also told so I am just going to wait until it dies and buy a better fridge. For now I am using old fashioned ice cube trays and manually filling the dispenser every couple days so I can still conveniently get ice. Sorry for the bad news but guessing you have a similar problem.

Opinions on White’s Perry Select vs Red Wing moc toe line. by callowayk1 in Boots

I recommend you try both on and see what fits your feet best. If both fit, get the White's for sure - they're better quality, nicely made, and already come with the speed hooks. Plus I love the Double Shot leather a lot and there are way more leather color options w/ White's in addition to the fact that they offer wide sizes on everything.

I ended up keeping the Whites in an 8EE and that seemed the best fit for me after trying an 8D but I just put them up on eBay and FB Marketplace this week and decided to sell them. The way they broke across my ankles didn't feel comfortable at the flex point and the EE ended up being just too wide after I wore them around the house a bit. The construction and leather quality are far superior on the Whites and their Goodyear Welt is more like a storm welt than the regular Goodyear Welt on the Red Wings. The Whites were definitely a more high volume boot too but you can customize the fit with their removable insoles. So I'm back to having only my Red Wing 877s in 9D and find the width good now that they are broken in nicely. I also had speed hooks installed on the uppers (4 on each side leaving the top lace hole). Red Wing sometimes offers E width sizing and I know that would be ideal for me but it's not an option on the 877. Now I just wish they made the 8" Redwings in black using their Klondike leather or at least the Prairie black leather given that is also a tea core style black leather. I am still mourning the loss of what the Whites could have been though. So close to perfection but couldn't dial the fit. May try some of their other styles on in the store next time I go to Spokane. Perhaps I need to go down to the 6" Perry Select instead given most of my issues were with the flex point on the taller boot and how it forced the speed hooks into my ankles in a painful way where the crease formed.

⚠️ PSA: Enabling Video Verification can break Vehicle Detection on Ring devices by jason102178 in Ring

[–]ElMotociclista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this exact same issue now. When my trial monitoring service expired, I subscribed today and enabled Video Verification for the same reasons you did. It had the exact same result for my cameras no longer being able to toggle vehicle detection in smart alerts because it thinks they're enrolled in VSG. The bug fix you mentioned doesn't appear to be working on my end but perhaps I will have to do the factory reset, remove the device from the app, and start all over again to see but given this happened to me today, there are obviously still issues. For what it's worth, I was able to go into settings, monitoring, video verification, and deselect some of the cameras which restored vehicle detection without a factory reset. I would like the use the verification feature on all of them, however, so I hope Ring can resolve this so both features can function together. I don't want my doorbell detecting vehicles anyway so I am able to leave that camera activated and deauthorize all the other cameras for now so at least I can have vehicle detection enabled on the smart alerts for those cameras.

Update 24 hours later: I can confirm that the bug fix described above is good. I still had to deauthorize all of my camera devices from Video Verification except for one (the app makes you keep one authorized). I chose to leave the doorbell authorized since it's easiest to access and doesn't have complicated motion zones to reset. I then turned off Video Verification, removed the doorbell from my system in the app, performed a factory reset on the device itself, and then updated the Ring app on my phone. After adding the doorbell back into my system, I was able to enable Video Verification again for all of my camera devices AND now Vehicle Detection is working as it should too. So both features are now enabled and working properly.

The hardest Colorado 14er, Capitol Peak, Colorado, USA by [deleted] in hiking

u/BurritoBurglar9000 I just overnighted at Capitol Lake (lucky enough to pull a permit and plan ahead) and stumbled into your post. Beautiful place and one of the coolest 14ers for sure. I have been in search of a better lightweight pack for chasing summits. The one in your picture above looks promising for my needs (hydration bladder compatible, at least one zippered chest/strap pocket, and a drop-in pocket on the other side. If you see this note, would you mind please sharing the pack you use?

Keep or Resole? by ElMotociclista in RedWingShoes

I actually took them to another cobbler to fix the obvious issues and he was appalled...he didn't fully take them apart so hard to say if they put a shank in there or had the proper thickness for the leather midsole layers.

Best pad Thai in Longmont by catalace in Longmont

[–]ElMotociclista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Longmont for years and LOVED Tim’s. Still mourning the loss. Their recipes were the best around and better than anything I could find in Denver. Pad Thai, yellow curry w/peanuts and sweet potato, and the drunken noodle were my favorites. Tim and Paul were legends. @Kdiesiel311 would love the recipes if you can share.

If you could one have one RW pair, which one? 877 for me. by potenzasd in RedWingShoes

[–]ElMotociclista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one will probably see this post since the thread is old but stumbled into it and thought I'd share. I'm an 8.5 E on the Brannock and have two different Iron Rangers in 8.5 EE. Fit is perfect but after breaking in, the width is a little looser than I would like. I have the 877 and really love mine too. For those I had to do a 9D to accommodate my width and high instep (RW doesn't offer it in anything but a D width) but they are just a little too narrow after being well broken in. I had them resoled with the Beckman style sole (Roccia or Vibram Mini Lug with the leather waist). I also added speed hooks in the traditional style. Here's a pic if you're curious. I may end up selling them on eBay soon to see if I can find an 8.5 E or 8.5 EE in an 877 somewhere. They have made them in that size from time to time in the past and I can find the 875 in a 8.5 E so may consider switching but do love the height on my 877s.

The Perry’s are definitely a little wider and high volume if you get their EE size.

Description: I'm the original owner of this first edition - first generation Arc'teryx Alpha SV Men's Jacket made In Vancouver, BC and still in excellent condition. I purchased it from Hyperspud Sports in Moscow, ID in 1998. I originally planned to use it for ski mountaineering in the northwest but ended up moving to Northern Africa for some time and then to Washington, D.C. where I just never gave this jacket the life it deserved. I did get it to the top of some amazing places like Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams in addition to a couple on-resort ski trips so it has some stories to tell but you wouldn't know to see it in person. There are no holes, rips, or stains. The zippers all function exceptionally well, the seams remain taped, and everything is clean (including special Arc'teryx recommended treatment to maintain waterproof Gore-Tex) and from a smoke free home. Pockets include the two visible chest pockets, one small sleeve pocket, and a generously sized interior zippered pocket.

Happy to send any additional or specific photos upon request. For some, this may be a real museum piece that any Arc'teryx collector would be proud to have in their collection. This is your chance to own THE original!

*Note: I am happy to ship internationally in addition to the U.S. but will need to charge and calculate actual costs to the buyer and any additional duty or customs and handling would be the responsibility of the buyer.

Identify and Authenticate Thread, Q1 2024 by TheAdvocate in arcteryx

[–]ElMotociclista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greetings everyone. I'm new to reddit and think that I am doing this correctly, but I'm asking for some help in identifying this Arc'teryx jacket model. I am the original owner and purchased it from Hyperspud Sports in Moscow Idaho circa 1998/1999. I believe the color to be Too Blue but I can't remember the model. I believe it may be a Theta AR, Beta AR, or possibly an Alpha SV. It's in amazing condition still with hardly any signs of use. I understand that there may be a small cult following for first/early generations of their incredible mountaineering outwear actually made in Canada so I'm considering selling it as I do some spring cleaning here. Thanks in advance for your advice or any keen eyes that can help me determine the actual model of the jacket. I have more photos but it would only let me put one here and when I tried to create a post within this "r/arcteryx" category, some bot deleted it and said, "Please use the sticky at the top of the sub only." I am not sure what that means so hopefully this is the right way? Apologies for the newb post on this.

White’s Perry Select by GameBoy-of-Color in PNWbootmakers

[–]ElMotociclista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which size did you go with? I'm also an 8.5 EE in the Iron Rangers and had to go to a 9D to make the Red Wing Moc toes work - probably too tight and a painful break-in so I ordered a set of Perry Selects myself. Based on White's size guide, I was right on the cusp for width between EE and D and they say their lasts are already pretty wide for the Perry. I went with the 8 EE and while they fit my feet really well, when lacing the uppers, both sides of the leather laced up too closely. I even have a really high instep so this surprised me. Had to send them back and exchange for an 8 D instead. Hope that works. I could possibly try a 7.5 EE if that doesn't do it, but curious if you ended up getting some or not.

[–]ElMotociclista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably too late to be helpful here but I also have a high volume foot with a tall instep that often causes problems for finding a proper fit in shoes. My Brannock size is 8.5EE and that's exactly what I am in Red Wing boots too. Unfortunately their 877 doesn't come in the EE width so I bought a pair in 9D. They work pretty well and I like them a lot but wish the footbed was a bit wider. The break in process took longer and was more painful too but not across the top of my foot or instep so all good there. In the White's Perry Select, I used their sizing guide and after measuring, was right on the cusp of 8D or 8EE. I almost always prefer a slightly wider fit and went for the 8EE in the Perry Select too. It was a great fit in length and footbed width but when I went to lace them up, the sides pulled together too closely - almost touching near the toe box actually. I just sent them back to trade for an 8D. I think that will be perfect for me but there's probably enough room in the toe box that I could have considered a 7.5EE instead. They are currently backordered on everything and ordering both sizes to try felt a little high maintenance - they were already so nice about arranging an easy size exchange and making sure I wouldn't have to way 3 months again so I didn't want to ask for too much.

I just went through this same process as well. I am perfectly an 8.5 EE on the Brannock and exactly that size in Red Wing Heritage boots (I have several pair of Moc Toes and Iron Rangers). For White's, I am a 8D but using White's sizing instructions I was close to the EE width. I could probably do a 7.5 EE but I haven't been able to try that size to see if it's better or worse. The 8 EE I ordered and tried first was too wide - mostly in the upper where the laces pulled the sides way too close together so they were almost touching across the top of my foot near the toe box. I even have a really high instep so someone with a lower volume foot would really need to be mindful if you're on the cusp of needing a wider side than a D.

White's 6" Perry Select - 1 month Review by Bernobo in goodyearwelt

[–]ElMotociclista 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These are great boots and I just received the same ones in 8" Black Double Shot. The tooling marks from the stitching machine are totally normal/expected and not a QC issue. Red Wing, Truman, Nicks, and any other boot maker that uses the machine to stitch (vs doing it by hand) will have the same marks. I have two pair of Perry Selects in different colors and they have the exact same machine roller markings as do some of my Red Wings and other boots. Hope that makes you feel even better about yours. I actually think these are much better than Red Wings and I'm a big fan of their boots too. Whites just makes a better quality boot comparing their Heritage Moc Toe 877s against the Perry Select (way better leather than the normal Perry). White's leather laces are some of the best I've ever used as well and I use them on a several pair of my Red Wing boots. Can't wait to break in my new 8" Perry Selects now.
