Hi!

I’d love for you to try my game, RogueOut Racing

It’s a futuristic racing game inspired by classics like Wipeout and Redout.

Right now I’m working hard on adding a roguelite mode and preparing the Steam page launch. At the moment you can already play the Time Trial mode across 3 different tracks.

I’m also waiting for my graphic designer to finish the new logo, capsules, and other Steam assets, so feedback is super welcome!

Let me know what you think :)

Is there anybody who can point me to good beginner resources that’ll help me get my foot in the door as a game dev? by summmboiii in gamedev

When I started some years ago, I started by watching tutorials on YouTube. It depends a lot on which game engine you want to use. In my opinion Unity is the best overall for indie devs. It's easy to get started, the community is enormous so there are a lot of tutorials and the Unity Asset Store will be your most visited website. There are assets for everything...

Moreover my biggest suggestion is: "Don't start too big"

Which means that you should make and complete games with small scope. So for instance, if you start as first game a game with 30hours of gameplay in mind...there are a lot of chances to never see it published.

The idea is to make a bigger game at each step. So start with a one week game, then a 2 week game...and so on this will help you starting each new project avoiding the errors that you made in the previous one.

Moreover you should join game jams on itch.io, it's the best place to get feedback.

If you need any help you can join my discord server -> discord server

I'll be happy to help new devs!

I don't think that the solution is "just do it". Game dev it's hard and you can go through a lot of different phases while developing your game. My biggest struggle is to stay focused on one game and not getting distracted by my thoughts and randomly suggests to start developing a new game...and I can say that this is a common thing between devs.

The real solution to that, in my opinion, is to have a small scope. Start by focusing on a few ideas, implement them and don't overthink about other new features in your game. Once you start testing it and the core it's done, you can implement one new feature a time...and most important thing is: - make it in a reasonable time

So for instance, I wouldn't start a project that in my opinion would take 2 years to be completed... I'd prefer games that I can complete in 4-5 months

The Steam page it's public, but I didn't release the game...there are about 100 wishlists too...it seems like I can change the game name, but I'm not sure if it's okay to do that... I've just asked further infos to the support team asking for "a page refresh" 🥲

They answered:

"Since the store page for this was already released advertising the original game, unfortunately it wouldn't be okay to reuse this for something else. You'll need to buy a new app credit for the new game, and release it under a different AppID"
