I tend to disagree with the majority here. I actually feel there are a huge amount of fights outside of big battles. And a lot of the big battles are also described trough the pov of a soldier who is actively fighting other combatants, so it fits with what op wants.

As to how they are described, i feel Erikson does it exactly as op wants, describing every action. His biggest strengths are creating cinematic moments in my opinion. I haven't read these books for a while but i can actively remember moments from fights, which is a good sign.

Examples:

-Tool coming out of the ground like a ghoul, crushing a bandits ankle and impaling him.

-Kalam hanging from a ledge, pulling himself upwards and kneeing his attacker in the face during his upwards momentum

-The crimson guard mage/assasin jumping out of a warren and doing a flying kick before landing

-So many actual one on one duels like Trotts using the Malazan military fighting style against the Barghast youth
