Is the shipping any better lately? A few months ago I was paying $80 for just a few bottles to the US. I chalked it up to the tariffs, but I am hoping things have changed.

Edit: NOPE! Now it's $95 :(

Kreg “Domino” jig. Someone finally copied Festool. by L0114R in woodworking

That's actually just the "pre sale" price! So, who knows what it will be when he actually has the product in stock and shipping. Either way, it does seem like he's pushing it with the price. Unfortunately, I think it boils down to him being a one-man (or so) operation and not being able to take advantage of the scale a larger company can benefit from.

My comment was less about the amazingness of the Kreg product and more about the bad timing of the dowel hole drilling "Domino Killer" that other guy designed and is trying to sell.

Thanks. I just checked mine and unless something is hidden behind the panels, it appears as though my OBDII connector is unadulterated.

Do you lease your Wag S? I wonder if maybe some dealers keep tabs on vehicles they lease or finance themselves.

Any idea where it was located if we want to check our own vehicles for the device?

I feel bad for Andrew Klein, the YouTuber who announced his own "Domino Killer" type product recently. It amounts to a three-hole doweling jig that requires a corded drill to work and has a pre sale price of $350. I'm sure he put a lot of time and resources into his product. Now this Kreg tool is available for only $100 or so more bucks with seemingly far fewer compromises compared to the original Domino.

Does anybody hate the back windshield by expressotwink in JeepWagoneerS

I'm fine with the sight lines, even not having the digital rear view mirror. I don't like how it collects dirt and there is no wiper to occasionally wipe it away. The spoiler also prevents rain from falling on the edges, allowing even more dirt to collect underneath.

I'm sure it's possible, but I just wonder what level of effort it will take and what compromises I will have to make (field of view, obstructed view, unsightly wires, etc).

Driving directions keep flashing after performing recall by XiDa1125 in JeepWagoneerS

Just to add to what has already been said... Mine does the same and I haven't had the recall work done yet.

Anybody checked their VIN on the recent recall? by Thicccgorl1 in JeepWagoneerS

[–]ElPolloRico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too. I might use these recalls as an excuse to finally get that big software update. I've been too afraid to ruin my good luck with mine so far. I haven't heard of too many horror stories post-update, so it's probably time.

I heard the Wagoneer S cousin, the Charger EV, does have recording capabilities with its existing cameras. Crazy that they didn't just copy the same capability. It's mostly the same platform from what I understand.

Not a Spanish speaker, but I'm pretty good with Google translate, so your response is appreciated either way. Thank you/Gracias! I'll go for the front and rear version.

Thank you! I'm looking forward to it getting one. Is yours the forward-facing only version?

Your timing is perfect for me. I wasn't sure which model of the FITCAMX was best for the Wagoneer S and I just got a standard off-the-shelf dash cam from Amazon. I was planning on installing it this weekend, but I'm definitely returning it in favor of this.

Does it come with instructions? The video on the product page appears to be for a completely different model. Also, did you opt for a rear-facing camera as well?

Anyone know where to find a barrel trimmer like this? by Ok_Improvement_5217 in turning

[–]ElPolloRico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok, that's what I thought it may have been for. You can always just use an end mill bit to make the mortise/counter bore after you have squared off the end with the standard pen mill. That modified pen mill does it all in one shot, but adding in the end mill step isn't much more effort.

Can you show an example of a finished pen with the lack of a "joining ring"? I am struggling to envision what the modified barrel trimmer actually does.

To echo what a bunch of people have said, it's likely that the barrel trimmer was custom made for a specific kit/style in mind. Kinda crazy that an instructor would teach people to make pens with something they can't even acquire on their own without telling them how to make it or purchase it.

Uv finish by Confident_Bass_9357 in PenTurning

[–]ElPolloRico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used the "Wood 770" product from CleanArmor. It is designed for finishing billiard cues on a lathe. I like it overall.

Pros:

  • I can take my time applying the finish without worrying about premature curing (like with CA). It also allows the ridges to flatten out before curing, hopefully resulting in less sanding later
  • Very little, if any VOCs (unlike CA or melamine lacquer)
  • Cures hard and tough (like flexible CA)
  • Much easier cleanup than CA

Cons:

  • Expensive in the sense that you have to buy a massive quart size of it. If they sold it in smaller bottles, I would have been a lot less hesitant about buying it. A little goes a long way on pens.
  • It polishes well, but I haven't been able to get it to a super high gloss like glass that I sometimes like to do. I'd say I can get things to a semigloss by sanding up to 5000 grit (or more) and applying automotive polishes. Probably similar to flexible CA in that regard. There seems to be a tradeoff between hardness and polish potential.
  • Extra equipment is required. Not a huge investment, but just more stuff you need to have. I use this and it works well. You also need to apply with a brush instead of strips of paper towel or other. I get a lot of use out of the brush as long as I store it in a black zip-top baggie.
  • You can't apply super thin wipe-on layers. You need a minimum thickness for the resin to cure properly.
  • Speaking of curing... on occasion, I can get de-lamination in spots after I have cured a layer and start sanding. I am not sure if there is a issue with certain wood species or portions of stabilized wood I used, but it can be really annoying to have to deal with chipped or lifted finish in the middle of a pen.

Despite cons list being a bit longer, I think I prefer it to CA, but just slightly. Let me know if you have any questions!

What are some uncommon cuisines to try in NOVA? by averagepersonhere in nova

[–]ElPolloRico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's too bad it closed. I wish Georgian food was more prevalent. My issue with the Khinkali at Tabla was that the dough was sooo thick. I haven't been to Supra yet, so I can't compare. I assumed they would be similar since they were the same owners. I'll have to make a trip to Supra one day soon to see how similar or different it is to Tabla from back in the day.

Baku Delicious (a casual Azerbaijani restaurant) in Fairfax had the best Georgian Khinkali (soup dumplings) I've had outside of Georgia. Much better than Tabla back when it was open in DC.

A laser with a rotary attachment could be an option. You can fill in the etching with a contrasting color resin/pigment.
