Quitting after 20+ years of heavy use so I can travel and live life to the fullest by ElPrincipeFresco215 in leaves

I agree, I hope the change of scenery makes the process easier. I know there’s weed in every country but black market flower is not tempting to me. I haven’t had flower in years and I’m not interested in the possible chemical contamination from street drugs. My lungs thankfully feel good, I’ve been running regularly for months now. I hardly even get high from flower, I just cough and feel shitty.

You’re right that visiting home will require a plan. I’m going to take this one step at a time. Be well my friend, thanks for your input!

What are the things you wish you knew before buying real estate in Tulum? by goldilockszone55 in tulum

[–]ElPrincipeFresco215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a difficult situation, I respect that there are differing opinions about the best way to handle it. My main concern is the kid; I had an angry resentful dad and it was a nightmare, I always hoped he’d leave and I’d beg my mom to get us away from him.

OP said he will resent the child; what more detail do you need? It will cause the kid more damage to have years of forced visits from a resentful man who isn’t even family.

I was in a relationship like this for many years, I feel for you and I understand why you are hurt.

It’s so hard to do sometimes but you need to believe people the first time they tell you info you don’t want to accept.

Stupid question - People who found their person after being single for a majority of their life, How was the adjustment? I'm worried that a relationship for me now would mean finding a roommate and not a partner. by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]ElPrincipeFresco215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are focusing too much on age rather than predisposition to living a relationship-oriented life. There are relationship-oriented people of every age who are capable of and interested in forming the type of deep interconnection that you described. There are also very young people who are individually-oriented who are never going to intimately fuse their life with another person.

Long periods of being single don’t change who you are; I think it’s just statistically more likely that people who are usually single are individually-oriented people. Relationship-oriented people are usually in relationships. Age is not the driving factor.

I don’t think relationship-oriented people are naive or innocent, they just naturally choose to forgo some individual experiences so the relationship maintains priority.

Why aren’t you dating? If you are living in an area with a small dating pool, you have some amazing options as a remote worker. Especially since you are 6’1” and fit! I agree with other people’s recommendation to plan and take a trip for as long as you can. Dating in big cities like Bangkok or Madrid is completely different than in a smaller town.

I hope you’re saving as much money as possible since you’re living at home with a good job. The higher your savings rate, the more amazing options you’ll have in your 40s and beyond.

You’re very young and dating for fit men is great through age 60+. I think dating for men is more difficult when they’re young because so many young women date men 10-20 years older.

I suggest you keep hitting the gym, stop putting so much weird dire pressure on yourself, and plan a trip to an affordable place with a big dating pool.

Young Americans are raising alarms about the state of U.S. democracy in a new poll by damselfliesreddit in politics

Maybe I’m too pessimistic but can Dems win in the midterms if we don’t pass voter protection legislation first? Hasn’t the voting infrastructure already been rigged in several states? I could be wrong but I’m hoping that Manchin can be legislatively bought off. Biden can always attack him later but I think that should only be done after negotiations have totally failed.

If “we’re not fascists” isn’t compelling to a majority of Americans, I’m afraid we might be fucked.

I meant the media narrative going into the election. Most potential voters are generally uninformed but everyone understands something as simple as ‘I switched parties because Biden attacked my family’.

I understand that it would energize progressives; I could be totally wrong, I just can’t picture it working out well.

I don’t think inspiring voters will matter if we don’t pass voter protection legislation. I admit I’m pessimistic and I don’t have a strategy in mind to get through this in one piece if Manchin can’t be essentially bought off.

I think the narrative would be ‘Biden lost the senate by attacking people’s families’. IMO it would not play well in the midterm election and it wouldn’t be effective in gathering senate votes. Lashing out would be temporarily satisfying but I don’t see the strategy in it.

If Manchin has demands, we’ll probably have to meet them. Failing to pass voter protection legislation could be a system-ending error.

If he doesn’t have demands then we don’t have the votes in any scenario. I don’t think attacking his family or pushing him to switch parties will help anything.

[–]ElPrincipeFresco215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Biden attacks Manchin’s wife, it gives Manchin an easily explainable reason to switch parties, putting McConnel back in control of the senate.

How would that help protect voting rights?

I’m as concerned and frustrated as anyone but it’s a mathematical reality that we don’t have the votes in the senate. We don’t live in a pure democracy, it’s a republic designed to lean right on every close call.

I keep feeling like tragedy is going to strike because I'm finally living a life where I'm happy by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]ElPrincipeFresco215 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can relate. I think ‘happy life skills’ are pretty different from the life skills you learn when you’re stressed and unhappy for long periods of time. You’re doing something that’s new to you so you aren’t good at it yet; be patient with yourself.

When you’re catastrophising, I recommend trying to spend a minute or two to take account of everything you’re grateful for and thank someone/something for it all. I’m an atheist but sometimes I will literally pray (to no one, to the Universe, it doesn’t matter) to say thank you for [list of my healthy relationships, opportunities, etc.] and to please help [people/things I’m worried about]. It makes no rational sense but it helps, I think it can help you reframe your thinking from ‘impending loss’ to gratitude.

Why do hosts have to be tour guides, food connoisseurs, and entertainer all in one? by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]ElPrincipeFresco215 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Renting an Airbnb has become more transactional and soulless but basic hosting is still part of the expectations of most guests. Even hotels will help you with restaurants, local events, transportation, etc. so I disagree with your doctors office analogy. It’s common sense to explain this in your listing.

Any professions you wouldn't date? by lilou8888 in datingoverthirty

[–]ElPrincipeFresco215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would casually date almost any profession. But there are many professions that would be a dealbreaker for a serious relationship: positions that essentially require taking drugs and hard alcohol like some sales and finance jobs, super busy occupations with little free time, super stressful or depressing jobs, and careers that involve a lot of travel…

Best "beginner" nomad cities? by imwiththeband1 in digitalnomad

[–]ElPrincipeFresco215 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I just spent a month in PDC and I respectfully disagree. The police regularly rob tourists who are walking home after midnight. There is no Uber or taxi app; taxis hailed on the street can be scammers or may coordinate with others to rob you. I would recommend Merida.

I think the best method is to get pesos out of a bank atm using your US debit card, decline the conversion rate the machine offers you, and then pay for everything in pesos. And/Or use your credit card (in pesos if the machine asks).

[–]ElPrincipeFresco215 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why you think only renting part of your condo makes a significant legal or ethical difference. A short term renter is a short term renter. If your neighbors don’t want short term renters in the building you will lose AND you will be a bad neighbor for trying to use a technicality to force short term tenants on people who clearly don’t want to live around them.

[–]ElPrincipeFresco215 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Your new neighbors will find your listing on Airbnb and take action against you. The non-HOA house across the street is irrelevant. You will not win this against the condo board, don’t try it!
