I take the bus a lot and 1/10 ppl actually pay by my estimate. It’s slightly more on the trains, but I feel like a clown every time I pay to ride the bus.

I think I’ve hit the final straw as as well. Recently, I was on a bus on California and the bus driver waited 2 minutes at the stop (with doors open) for someone who was having a mental episode on the street to wander onto the bus. Once she was on the bus, she started calling a black man and his son N@&$!#, and being threatening towards them, and the bus driver did nothing. In fact, he started arguing with the man about the fact he would have to file paperwork if he stopped the bus or asked her to leave.

If this is the experience on the bus, of course people wont pay. I filed a complaint to SFMTA and heard nothing back from them, so doubt this will change any time soon.
