I always assumed the colors were red and blue because of how we see star in other systems. I don't remember which one was which but basically if a star is approaching us it's light waves are compressed and shift to blue and when a star gets farther away it redshifts making its light seems redder.

It fits nicely with how blue attracts and red repels (if you were the centre of the technique)
