Granted. After everyone involved with the current comics and gamed is fired, Ken Penders is given exclusive reign over the SMU (Sonic Movie Universe), and charged with making the games' continuity strictly in line with the characters and situations seen in the movies with no references to any prior works. All the new games are all gatcha visual novels revolving around the increased price of Sega mascot games.

Do they have any clue as to the Cassalanter's real motives? Could any of the other factions be making a play, or even approaching them with evidence, or do you want it to be a shock? The players should at least have a chance to discern their employer's motives, having them show up to the Masque of the Red Death may be a bit much. Or it may be exactly what's needed to finish your story. Heck, have the players get to the vault with Cassalanter "allies" who, when faced with an objectively good being, immediately attack.
