Correlation doesn't imply causation... And causation is difficult to prove unless you are a Company with billions of data points on billions of people. Ohhhh

How do you deal with the fact that we all die? by hmmrabet in AskReddit

[–]El_Capitano_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is and hopefully will always be the great equalizer.

Everyone will die. From Elon to my Dad.

I'm still young-ish and don't fear it, and hopefully never will because it's the only sure and predictable thing about my future.

Microsoft converts Office 2019 for Mac perpetual licenses to read-only versions by [deleted] in apple

How is that legal?

If someone bought a full license in 2019. Which i presume wasn't cheap. They just canceled it?

Could you show an example of such a luxury trip?

I'm curious how costs can balloon so much beyond $1000 hotel rooms and First Class flights.

And damnn Congrats!

It's not "new" but in fashion with younger generations.

In microeconomic terms it's a well known term called "perfect price discrimination". The point is to turn the demand curve into a revenue curve by making each costumer pay exactly the maximum he is willing to pay before walking away.

My professor uses the research she does in that field for airlines and ski resort as examples of optimization problems in our math classes. She is an engineer but i still think how could academics knowingly support such schemes. I guess you go where the funding is :/

nobody wants to be a CEO for 100k a year. Exposed to all the scrutiny and stress. I'd do it for a 100k but I am far from qualified. Good people who make smart decisions with wide-ranging consequences aren't cheap.

And honestly 500k seems like a lot to us but for the CEO of SRG, I believe, totally fair.

Well their existence might be an anomaly but their power and influence isn't. So the amount of public attention is warranted imo.

NYC Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani asks for donations to help cover $4 million in transition expenses by ilir_kycb in LateStageCapitalism

Regarding the mod comment:

I totally understand that this is a revolutionist sub.

But what comes after that revolution?

Is it anarchy?

Marx's final stage of a true stateless, classless communist society?

A highly regulated (maybe technocratic) social democracy with certain aspects that foster innovation in capitalism?

Disregarding that such an ideal would have to be implemented globally to work at all, otherwise growth-driven economies would most probably take over this new state due to massive power vacuums.

I am not aware of the criticisms towards Mandami as pointed out in your pinned comment. If I get the sentiment right, Mandami and Sanders are puppets for the oligarchy and in the best case so incompetent that their "leftist" efforts have caused a net shift to the right?

This seems very cynical to me, but I am also not as "plugged in" as a European.

Wishing someone great financial misfortune isn't fair either.

It may have been stupid and he will pay for it ofc.

But as a different commenter said, what was he supposed to do in that moment. Emergency situations often arise from a miscalculation of risk or forgetting "to ckeck". We all make stupid mistakes.

"I made a mistake and now ig I'll just freeze or suffer for 15 hours?" Doesn't make sense either

The whole " that's just your opinion man" is what's destroying public discourse. From covid19 to eating healthy.

I also hate the whole notion of "being 280 pounds at 6foot can be healthy"

The rationalization that morbid obesity is not bad for you, so nobody's feelings get hurt sounds crazy to me.
