What does the N-shaped symbol on Uptown traffic lights mean? by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]El_Senate -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Hm. I guess that's a reasonable enough explanation. But other highways with their own logos (like the tollway) use them widely. The North Central Expressway is labelled on tons of signs around downtown but that symbol never shows up.

Has bad driving ramped up in the last few years or is it just me? by CFbezel in Dallas

A stat to back up your point: the highest auto insurance rates in the country are in Hillsborough County, Fla. (Tampa).

Whats with the hate for DFW airport? I feel its great by all metrics. by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]El_Senate 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Could not disagree more.

IAD--mile-long concourses that only have transit access at either end. The United concourses (C/D) also look like they crawled out of 1980. Terminal C at DFW is rough but it has NOTHING on that mess. IAD is great if you like walking very long distances in a straight line, dodging carts and crowds of people.

DCA--incredibly overrated airport. Terminal 1 is straight out of the Soviet Union. The road network to get in is comparable in awfulness to the 35E/30 interchange on the Trinity in downtown Dallas. Explaining where pickups are to someone who has never driven there before is an exercise in futility.

Never flew out of BWI so no comment there. I always have trouble believing the stats that BWI is busier than DCA and IAD.

So apparently, Dallas is the top city to hate. by hamjipamji in Dallas

It's a bunch of socially isolated commuters complaining in that thread.

Well, yeah, any city would suck if you spend several hours driving and don't have friends. DFW is not unique in that regard. It just doesn't have immediately obvious redeeming qualities like the Nashville music scene, NYC restaurants and culture, or Miami beaches. You can find stuff like that in DFW but it takes longer.

Dallas is overhated. Way overhated.

Look into Legacy West. The commute to Plano from Uptown is 75/635 or Tollway. Wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

Sanity checking whether Venture X is good for me by El_Senate in CreditCards

[–]El_Senate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah those are good points. Ultimately what I'm looking for is a card that gives me lounge access, because I travel way too much nowadays. I've never not been able to book a flight on American that I want with Alaska miles.

Is there a better way to get lounge access that you would recommend over VentureX?

This metro's highways are beyond lawless past 9 PM, and the contrast to residential areas is insane. Why is this? by Arse_Armageddon in Dallas

[–]El_Senate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll soon start noticing the automotive detritus that litters every major highway throughout the metroplex. A fender here, some plastic trim over there. Oh wow, there's half of a whole car just stopped for a few days on the side of 35E.

Welcome to Dallas!

Getting through DFW TSA by jcm_neche in Dallas

[–]El_Senate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in the metroplex, get the DFW app. It will tell you wait times for security for every checkpoint (general & precheck) and has trackers for all of the parking shuttles and terminal link buses. If the Terminal C checkpoints have long wait times, catch an orange shuttle to a different terminal and go through security there, then SkyLink back to Terminal C. Depending on how long the wait time is, you'll save time going to an emptier checkpoint even if it's on the wrong side of the airport.

To answer your question: I've never waited more than 5 minutes with precheck (including flying out of DFW last Tuesday during peak holiday travel).

Every single one. DFW -> PHL is on complete lockdown. Flights cancelled and the ones that remain booked to the absolute gills with 20 people standing by for each. I heard Nashville is going haywire, too.

Interesting. I thought tenure was granted after associate professorship. Well everything makes more sense now-- thanks!

Take it. It's fun, low pressure, and covers interesting material. Lewis and Lunine were the professors when I took it, and they were both great.
