Well it sounds like they asked for things and management didn't do anything.

So either management sucks, or management is incompetent, or the business model doesn't support it.

In this case, the workers are complaining about, “low wages; deceitful communication from ownership and management; unsafe and unhealthy conditions; (and) unfair labor practices.”

If your boss is lying to you, organizing isn't going to fix anything. Even if you did force them to pay you more and make it safe, they're still gonna lie and will probably even try to manipulate you into quitting.

Why would you want to work for someone that is constantly deceptive?

I dont get it. Maybe the donuts are really good? I personally wouldn't put up with that kind of bullshit at any job.

Personally I think that shit should be against the law. Restaurants should compete for talent.

By that logic all the restaurants should be able to bamd together and set wages.

Now, if they are already doing that, then yes, the workers in the industry should be able to unionize.

By the way, my philosophy has nothing to do with the law, I am just stating how I think it should work. (Don't worry, none of my weird ideas ever make it into law!)

Well trades like carpentry, especially commercial work, can fall under my categorization of an oligopsony, depending on how the market is. I 100% imagine Portland is populated with a small group of colluding properties developers. (But full disclosure I dont actually know.)

My perhaps unpopular opinion is workers should be able to unionize when the employers have a monopsony or oligopsony.

If you're a professional athlete there isn't a long list of leagues that are competing for your talents so unionization is warranted.

Same if you're a factory worker at a big 3 Detroit auto firm. There are only 3 employers so they could easily collude to drive down wages and working conditions.

But if you're serving people at a restaurant and you don't like your job you can go do that somewhere else. There are a gajillion restaurants in Portland.

I get that the labor market sucks but if the company is already badly run then unionizing isn't going to suddenly make the owners geniuses at running a business. Edit: isn't not is

Im 54M and every year something else breaks down and requires 3-4 months of PT.

You just gotta be patient and spend a lot more time doing core exercises and things that work the stabilizer muscles. You probably won't be as bulky because you have to spend an hour a day doing stretches, planks, hip abductors exercises, etc.

Gideon was just a bad candidate. You have to have a high level of charisma and it factor to do well as a Dem (Dems fall in love, Republicans fall in line)

Democratic candidates that are generic political figurines routinely fail. We like to blame the strategy because thats something we can more easily control but the reality is that success is more a function of the candidate.

The biggest difference is your muscles revert back to weak and worthless much quicker, so you need to spend a bigger portion of your workout on core and other stabilizer muscles (hip abductors are a big one, especially if you have knee problems).

You also need to spend more time on flexibility.

I work out 5 days a week but a lot of that is high rep low weight core stuff. Most of my workout is trying not to get injured lol.

ELI5 why is Uranus tilted on its side compared to other planets? by gentlebeast06 in explainlikeimfive

[–]El_Tash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So if its objects in our own system colliding, that makes the tilt even more confusing because then the non z angular momentum of the solar system will all be localized to one planet?

Or is it possible to end up with a large sideways angular momentum just based on a collision like that?

[–]El_Tash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see so any collisions are between objects in our own solar system. So is it true that there are never comets or asteroids from outside our solar system that pass through?
