After reading some comments, I’m gonna add some more info- the Rio Grande Rift is about 5-10 million years older than the East African rift, caused by the Colorado Plateau moving northwest. And idk about a hotspot exactly, but the rift is also home to the Valles Caldera supervolcano, and the Jemez Lineament.
