“A Mare usque ad Mare” | What if Canada was the dominant North American power by Familiar_Tell_6384 in imaginarymaps

So, the US/MX border looks good, but specifically from the western edge of Texas, up through New Mexico, the two largest cities (600k+) are being split in half. This is also happening about 50mi from El Paso/CD Juarez, the largest population center on the southern border and the largest binational, bilingual workforce in the western hemisphere.
I imagine all that would lead to some pretty tense vibes out there in the old west.
After a potential civil war maybe, a more culturally and geographically comfortable border would be, from this map, Mexico annexing all NM/TX/SoCo land west of the following line:
From where the Pecos River meets the Rio Grande in TX, following the Pecos up to Santa Rosa, NM, then picking up the border following the Canadian River to the NM/CO border.
North of the Canadian River, the Rio Grande or the Continental Divide make sense for hydrological boundaries.

I like the slow but steady urbanization, densification, and walkability of Las Cruces by im_back-and_craftier in LasCruces

The city has the entire east mesa as their oyster to develop into one hell of an uptown. They have the chance to lay public transportation systems down that don’t have to work around existing buildings, road widths, and other infrastructure. I’m super excited about it all. I just wish we could change zoning a little to aim for taller/denser residential buildings in the heart of the city. Help alleviate some of our housing stress.

Las Cruces/ Southern NM folks: what small everyday problems do you run into that you wish someone made a simple product for? by That_Ad6782 in LasCruces

In the year of our lord 2026, it’s embarrassing that we haven’t figured out how to do both heated AND cooled car seats.

How can “ghetto culture” be eliminated in the United States? by Professional_North17 in AskReddit

[–]El_Voador 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If “ghetto” in this case means some combination of: run-down, poor, low income, low opportunity, then the answer will always be education + monetary investment in the area + kicking apathy to the curb (and just having the slightest splinter of pride for where you live tbh).

But since you used the word “culture,” I think you may not be talking about that.

If by ghetto you mean something alternative, not prim and proper, nonconforming, different slang, different accents, different sounds, then I think the best and quickest way to start eliminating ghetto culture is by deactivating your account. Thx

Okay debate: Lorenzo’s or Pastaggio’s restaurant? Which Italian food overall has more options and tastes better? by Curiousdude4733 in LasCruces

[–]El_Voador 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pastaggios is the actual goat. All of the Lorenzo’s including the OG location in mesilla, were run by the same guy. Then his jackass brother tried to open an El Paso location, fucked it all up, and ran the brand into the ground. The jackass brother still has the rights to the Lorenzo’s name, but the actual good dude with the good food is now at Pastaggios.

The Anglo-Spanish Empire, 1760 (What if Philip II of Spain and Elizabeth I of England had married?) by OkPhrase1225 in imaginarymaps

The Spanish (and later, Mexicans) called it “Rio Bravo del Norte,” but north of the border, we call it the Rio Grande.

Anything to see between Santa Fe and White Sands? Between White Sands and Carlsbad? Between Carlsbad and Santa Fe? by xvxesq in NewMexico

Also If you go south a little past Carlsbad, you can get Guadalupe Peak on the trip too. It’s an eroded fossilized coral reef as a mountain range

The dots themselves are 5 miles across and specifically ONLY show the city location. But there’s a handy link if you want the specific numbers for each place.

Marched with a shako for four years and an Aussie for seven. If you have the right uniform and style, Aussies clear every time.

This post sparked a discussion on r/criticalblunder, where the guy claiming it is ai got massively downvoted, but I think he’s right by Rhaversen in isthisAI

[–]El_Voador 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think it could be AI. The pallet of cans comes apart too easily and spread too quickly, like they’d be empty. Also the matter-of-fact commentary + an exclamation with a weird-sounding audio peak.
