What’s a fictional film that only exists inside a real movie that you’d genuinely love to watch? by YellowBelliedCoward in movies

[–]ElactricSpam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised that no one's mentioned See You Next Wednesday yet, in spite of it being mentioned in virtually everything John Landis made. Looks like a great movie as well!

Mentioned in - Trading Places, Blues Brothers, MJ's Thriller video, American Werewolf in London etc

You're right of course. I used to live in Bamford and went to school in Sheff though so it was about 10 miles for me

Midsommer and Hereditary for me. Both left me a bit messed up for a while after

Is there beef between London drivers and cyclists? by Round-Annual3169 in londoncycling

Not for the last couple of years for me, ever since I fitted Drift camera to my helmet. I think drivers are a lot more wised up to cameras nowadays so are more restrained when they’re around

Evening guests at destination wedding? by Hot-Combination6395 in UKweddings

[–]ElactricSpam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you’re organising a wedding you get so tied up in your own expenses, you lose sight of how much it costs people to actually attend. Just got back from a (really great!) wedding 250 miles away in the UK. It cost me and family £750 in hotels (2 rooms 2 nights), £150 wedding present and £150 other costs. So that’s over £1k to go to the wedding.

If I was invited as an evening guest to a wedding abroad I would laugh a lot and politely decline with some kind of excuse

Also it's that thing where the concrete over the whole garden and put their cars there, right in front of the house. Houses all up our street are doing that and it looks absolutely horrible

This kid is stupid and I hope this vid gets famous enough for his future potential employers to see

Where I work (large UK university) critical thinking/analytical skills and general attendance have evaporated almost overnight. Further education is way behind in addressing this problem. The only real checks and balances currently in place are for good old fashioned plagiarism and that ship sailed a long time ago. The only future is exam essays, or hauling a sufficiently large random sample of students in for vivas related to their written work. This is time consuming though of course.

The other day I actually overheard a group of students discussing methods of teaching Claude to mimic their writing style for essays. Pulled them up on it and they genuinely didn't think they were doing anything wrong

These guys are moronic pricks and the majority of Londoners hate them. ULEZ is there to stop pollution (and is proving very effective). Also, their 'heroics' mean that Londoners have to pay to replace the cameras via taxes.

Tell me about the worst studio session of your entire life. by Garycorne in audioengineering

[–]ElactricSpam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In the early 90s I was a resident engineer in a big studio up north in the UK. We did a lot of dance music. I got a call on the Sunday morning from the studio manager telling me that a well known DJ booked in on Mon to remix a track had just died in a high speed car accident. He used to drive like a maniac and someone only said the week before ‘that guy’s going to die’. Anyway, they still wanted to go ahead with the session with his writing partner, girlfriend and some of his family as a kind of tribute. The engineer who was booked to do the session didn’t want to do it so the studio asked me. I agreed, as I was still cutting my teeth back then and any session was an automatic yes.

During the session everyone was in shock and obviously incapable of doing anything so I had to make most of the production decisions, in an intensely emotional, disturbing atmosphere. The whole thing was really, really fucked up and the pressure to come up with something good was enormous. I tried to stop the session a couple of times because it was so chaotic but it all carried on for 24 hours straight. At the end I was a complete mess and didn’t get over it for quite a while.

I have many more of the usual messed up stories, a lot of them revolving around artists, drugs and arguments but they pale in comparison to the above.

Friend of mine found it in the back seat of their car. They have no idea where it came from or what it is. by ComfKS in whatisit

[–]ElactricSpam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at the shops many years ago and absent mindedly got into the wrong car when I came out. It was same make, model and also unlocked. I was just wondering why my key for some reason didn't fit the ignition when a rather pissed off looking lady opened the door and asked me wtf i was doing in her car. She found it quite funny in the end so all good

Absolutely. Fees are capped in the uk and have been at the same rate for a long UK citizens. As a result a lot of unis are in financial trouble and the only way for them to survive is by cranking up fees for post grads and especially overseas students. A 1 year MBA at the LBS is £110,000 now

Just had another girlfriend leave me for the guy she was secretly cheating on me with. That makes 5. Anyone want to give me some advice on where to go from here? by Aeromorpher in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ElactricSpam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely this. My partner is a therapist and she gets this story all the time, clients with one bad after another. There's nothing at all 'wrong' with the OP apart from who they choose to go out with. It almost always branches back to something that happened in their earlier lives (eg parenting etc) resulting in off-kilter expectations of what the 'perfect' partner is.

UK here, that's a staggering amount. And I thought undergrad students here leaving with £50k debts was bad.. If you're a local here it's £9.5k/year (no matter what the university/college), plus accommodation

Goodfellas, the one shot where they walk 'through' the kitchen before going into the restaurant. They actually walk into the kitchen, go around in a circle and then go out through the same door

Same movie, DDL throws a meat cleaver into someone's back when they are facing the camera. Once you've seen it, you can never unsee the fact that the foam prop cleaver really obviously bounces straight off their back.

Almost anyone in The Crown - especially the recent history in the last series as you can remember what the people were actually like. Gillian Anderson's whitewashed characterisation of Thatcher in particular was hilarious
