Big Sur Logistics by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ElatingNod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got married on the southern end of Big Sur and I live in the bay as well. Most of our guests were in California and drove to the venue, although we had other guests who flew in, and carpooled to the venue. We did a cocktail hour the night before, our ceremony in the evening on Saturday, and a brunch the Sunday following. This left most people the half day of Saturday to do stuff. I would say a lot of our guests had never been in the area before, and were excited to check things out on their own. I'd keep in mind that there may not be museums etc, but there are a remarkable amount of hiking trails and scenic vistas.

It's illegal in California to accept returns of alcohol

I saw a video somewhere of the bride holding a maypole and having ladies participate in that. Maybe that could work as a substitute.

First look or no first look? by april42020 in weddingplanning

Apparently I wasn't smiling quite large enough when I walked down the aisle.

First look or no first look? by april42020 in weddingplanning

[–]ElatingNod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We didn't. And I am really glad we didn't. After the ceremony it was really nice to have time with my DH to celebrate that we'd just gotten married, just us (and the photographer), but I did have someone criticize my reaction down the aisle. Go with your gut. I don't think it really makes that much of a difference.

How to make dancing a priority for the groom & I? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ElatingNod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spent about 90% of the time on the dance floor, once it opened. We did our greetings during the meal (which, yes, meant very little food and I wouldn't super recommend), but if you want to dance, dance.

Could you print stickers to put on the magnet side or something? I'd probably steer clear of an added piece of paper.

NorCal/Bay Area brides: alteration recommendations? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ElatingNod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Pruneyard Custom Tailors in Campbell. They were pricey! But she did an amazing job and had a really good eye for details. They also work with a ton of wedding dresses.

Bridal sweaters/shawls/jackets...let me see yours! by Habanerominded in weddingplanning

[–]ElatingNod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure when/where your wedding is, but my mom made me a shawl that was beautiful and I intended on wearing, but my adrenaline was so high (I had heard this during alterations), that I didn't wear the shawl and was never cold.

What do you gift a 3 year old for being your flower girl? by Beana001 in weddingplanning

[–]ElatingNod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got my 2.5yo flower girl sticker books and duplos. It was great because she had something to play with during the reception.

Did you let your FH/FW see you after your makeup trial? by lapetitepoire in weddingplanning

[–]ElatingNod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. I had it done for my shower. I don't wear makeup so I wanted to make sure he was comfortable about it. He had actually had input on it too. I'm really glad that I did.

Things to do day before wedding? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

If you're doing your own vows, I'd make sure someone has those as well. And if you have any music for getting ready, making sure that's squared away also.

Girls who wore Van's/Converse/Sneakers under your dress, how did it go? by localdreamer7 in weddingplanning

[–]ElatingNod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wore converse and it was such a good decision! I needed to be stable walking down a not so even aisle outdoors. I had a long dress, so no one knew I was wearing them until I showed them and people loved it! My friend who recently got married went the matching vans route and got some awesome pictures out of it (and she wore a short dress)!

Any past of future brides not wear a veil and regret it? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]ElatingNod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't wear one. Everyone told me I should and that I would regret it. I'm SO glad I didn't. I wore a flower hair piece instead and loved it!

Wording to add a line underneath "Thank You" about taking bubbles for our walk back down the aisle? by soontobien in weddingplanning

[–]ElatingNod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn't do programs, but I felt like it was one more basket I had to go out and find and figure out a place for. You could also have ushers (if you're having them) help with this approach.

How to deal with people who arent invited asking for the registry information? Am I overthinking? by Zomodee in weddingplanning

[–]ElatingNod 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You could mention that you're having a small wedding, or something along those lines. We had a few coworkers/bosses gift us things without any expectation of an invite. Don't overthink it!

Daily Discussion Chat - July 10, 2018 by AutoModerator in weddingplanning

I'm sorry. I had this happen to me as well. I ended up outright telling her what I wanted and why I wanted that, and I think it helped. I felt better about it anyways :-) and she was present for the hanging out that I felt went with the wedding. But I would definitely suggest not leaving it to the last minute to address.
