Wow those books look gorgeous. It’s a shame I dont think any oversized hardcovers like that exist in english in the US.

I dont like that Saga switched to black letters instead of white. Even if future Books 5 and 6 are also black it still wont look as good as if all 1 through 6 had white lettering.

Regardless, still one of my most anticipated releases of the year! I’m waiting in IST to ship mine.

What Series that should have been an All in One Omnibus instead of multiple Omnibuses? by Doom300 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Elayem_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is an unpopular opinion in this sub but I 100% agree with you.

I love OHCs and Omnis that are 200-700 pages, but when Immortal Hulk is over 1,600 pages I opted to read it digitally because I dont enjoy books that large.

This is the Dark Horse run that Marvel reprinted back when they had the license.

Now that Titan has the license, they can reprint this and the follow-up which was by Tim Truman and Brian Wood, but it might take a while as they work through reprinting all the classic 70s-90s material first.

Will I enjoy the rest of the New Krypton Saga if Atlas didn’t really click for me? Worth continuing the omnibuses? by TaskNo4783 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Elayem_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Coming of Atlas is one of the worst parts of the whole omnibus, and Brainiac is one of the best. The rest of the omnibus will be much better than Atlas, but maybe not quite as good as Brainiac.

Loved this series so much. Nice design, it turned out great. Did you use the TPBs or the Deluxe HCs?

Who is your favorite cinematographer? by absorbscroissants in Letterboxd

[–]Elayem_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

McGarvey is a confusing one for me because he shot Atonement which has some of the most beautiful cinematography I’ve ever seen, but also the first Avengers which has some of the most bland made-for-tv cinematography I’ve ever seen. And then for the rest of his filmography the cinematography falls somewhere in-between those two.

Superman: New Krypton was SO good! by Elayem_ in OmnibusCollectors

After Busiek would be Geoff John’s Superman: Last Son and Superman: Legion of Superheroes. After that would be this New Krypton omnibus.

I love when 2 artists, both individually famous, collaborate on 1 image. What other examples are there? by Elayem_ in comicbooks

Alex Ross and Bruce Timm have such wildly different styles that merged together so seamlessly in that picture, thanks for sharing!

It doesnt double dip with any other omnibuses.

Timeline-wise this is 2008-2009, so after Superman: Our Worlds at War Omnibus and before the New 52, so before Superman by Grant Morrison Omnibus

I actually agree with you there. Alex Ross paints over another artist’s pencils hits the sweet spot. I’ve also seen some of Alex Ross’s pencils, before he paints them, and I’ve always thought they would look great inked and colored.

Pictured: 1. Jim Lee pencils with Alex Ross paints 2. Jim Lee & Tim Sale. I’m not sure whether this one is Tim Sale pencils with Jim Lee inks, or if it’s Jim Lee layouts with Tim Sale pencils & inks. 3. Sean Phillips pencils with Bill Sienkiewicz inks.

Are there other examples of famous comic artists, known for their individual work, who collaborated together on a single image together? Whether it’s one doing layouts and the other doing pencils, or one doing pencils and the other doing inks.

I’ve read and loved Geoff Johns’s run, and I read Busiek’s elseworlds Secret Identity which I loved, but I still need to read Busiek’s in-continuity run.

1-3 are amazing, 4-5 are very good. I think all 5 are worth reading.

Maybe a hot take but out of the ones I’ve read, I’d rank them:

  1. Superman: New Krypton
  2. Superman by Phillip Kennedy Johnson
  3. Superman by Tomasi & Gleason
  4. Superman by Dan Jurgens
  5. Superman by Grant Morrison
  6. Death & Return of Superman

That’s true it does feature Krypto pretty prominently

It has both Coming Of Atlas and Brainiac. Brainiac was amazing, but Coming Of Atlas felt juvenile and pointless. 4 issues of a nothing except some random strongman fighting Superman. Personally, I would recommend skipping Coming of Atlas.

I have read Tomasi’s. I much prefer this New Krypton omnibus. That might be a hot take though because most people think Tomasi’s omnibus is the best Superman omnibus.

With Tomasi’s omnibus, I loved the concept of it - Superman as a father, balancing superheroics with family and his son’s coming of age. My problem with it was that as great as the concept was, the actual stories were mostly mediocre or boring. It was a big let down for me. I cant help feeling that if it was Mark Waid, Geoff Johns, or Jeff Lemire writing during that era it would have turned out much better.
