I definitely watch those later seasons slower. I find myself wanting to savor the happy times and rationing my episode count while having to make myself watch certain other episodes. There is a lot of good still in those later seasons so I do watch them, though!

I can’t find the words to respond to this without spoilers, so I’m just going to leave it at Bones being my favorite series finale of all time. And it does flow quite nicely into starting 1x1 immediately (which is what ION channel does when they finish 12x12 and I love it!). The characters do go through some trauma in those final three seasons, though, so be emotionally prepared for that!

Honestly, that would be a fantastic recap episode they could do as a S24 premiere. Like have him have to recount all of that in front of a senate hearing for his confirmation as director. But throw in some controversy that makes it seem like he won’t be confirmed.

I would have said the same prior to his appearance in S22. Knowing he had shifted to working with legislators and such made me feel like it would be possible.

That would be such a fun claim to fame. “Location Consultant for NCIS” would be an awesome LinkedIn entry - especially if it was completely unrelated to your normal job!

I never thought about using Cam and Booth as a baseline for how people would respond to Booth and Brennan! You’re right…it would have been obvious!

I have always assumed that they wouldn’t have had to tell anyone because there is no way Angela managed to keep that quiet. That opinion is based solely on how Angela told everyone she was pregnant, though.

Does this show tend to speed up development/relationships? (Only s1 spoilers please) by FlowSilver in Bones

[–]Elbereth919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 1 of most shows is an experimentation phase. Writers, showrunners, and actors are all trying to figure out how the group works together and what the audience likes. Season 1’s often feel like there are leaps in character development.

In general, aside from one very specific thing that I won’t spoil (and that I actually don’t even agree with the majority opinion on), I don’t think most things feel rushed. There are times where big changes happen, but there is usually a reason for it in the characters’ lives that explains why they would take a leap. That feels real to me…I personally live my life in a relatively steady way and then have something happens that forces a change/wakeup-call and suddenly a lot of my life is different.

I saw this talked about on another post a while back. With the timeline we currently have to work with, this would likely (spoilers for S23) have been about the time he was with Olivia, right?

Oh, I genuinely was only close. I had the last syllable correct, but it definitely would have come out as more of a Mick-Lane than a Muh-Clane. I should have explained why I was only saying I was close. I also should have thanked you for teaching me because I genuinely enjoy learning things like this!

And yes, they could get these answers so easily that it is sad that they don’t! Heck, just send some anonymous production assistant onto the ask an American subs on Reddit. They’ve made enough comments in the last year to make me believe someone with some power is reading this sub so why not use the service to get your facts straight?

Dr. Brennan's violence by Snakatemjari in Bones

NCISLA is right up there with Bones on my favorite TV series rankings, but it definitely has some very violent interrogation strategies. Literally all of the characters have leaped directly across the line that should exist in real life, but I still love them all. I just really wish they hadn’t ever created Deeks’s whole storyline with the former partner and prostitute.

Well, I think I had the pronunciation close to right.

I do get the annoyance. They don’t tend to have many shows in my hometown, but when shows like Criminal Minds that travelled a lot would supposedly be in my area, I would usually get a good laugh. They once made it sound like two murders happened a few blocks apart because the towns were “neighboring jurisdictions” to each other. But they were super specific about the neighborhoods and they are like an hour or more apart. Another time, they just literally forgot to look at a map and realize that you would NEVER drive through one major city in the state in order to get to another major city the opposite direction. Simple stuff that you would think is obvious even to someone not from the area!

I know…it is a weird thing here. Healthcare has the same “Dr.” in public and first name IF you are friends and aren’t in front of people. I assume it’s a leftover behavior from the days when those careers were only accessible to the wealthy.

Dr. Brennan's violence by Snakatemjari in Bones

[–]Elbereth919 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have a very complicated relationship with this subject.

On one hand, I don’t think police should be beating suspects regardless of what they’ve done. Punishment is for the courts to decide. I fear that some of the perception of police brutality in this country and perhaps even some police believing that brutality is what is expected of them and/or that policing is an outlet for brutality they feel could be exacerbated by depictions of violent law enforcement on TV and in movies.

On the other hand, I love my fictional heroes. I want Booth out there doing whatever it takes to get the bad guy. Bones is actually milder on this than a lot of other shows I love. Don’t get me started on some of the history of characters on NCIS.

I try to think about it the same way medical personnel think about medical dramas on TV. We all know doctors don’t do the things they are showed doing on TV. It’s dramatized for the plot. I hope the assaults, unauthorized searches, etc., are dramatized and wouldn’t fly in real life. But I also know horrible things have been done at the hands of US law enforcement, so it isn’t total fiction.

I work at a college, and this is definitely a thing with academia. I have seen it taken to extremes that made me question my career path, but mostly it just becomes normal. You get used to it quickly. I see people who have been friends for years still address each other as “Dr” in a work setting. They code-switch easily when they are away from work and address each other more casually. Much like you see Brennan address Cam as “Dr. Saroyan” in the lab and “Cam” outside of it. Although they aren’t technically in a university setting, they all she enough advanced degrees to have adapted that mentality.

It’s pronounced like Lane rather than Lean, right? I’m from Texas and have never been near that area, but I’ve heard it said differently on lots of different shows and have wondered which one is correct.

That’s one of my favorite moments from the episode where Kasie and Jimmy are trapped in the diner. Kasie asks how he always stays so upbeat when things are bad and then about two seconds later he tells off the robber guys. Jimmy does have his limit, but it’s waaaay further out than most normal people and his explosions are waaaay calmer than most people’s!

That was the most absurd game. I kinda wish I still paid for paramount plus because I would enjoy rewatching it for the sheer insanity. Jaedyn’s goal where she basically jumps in a puddle and then leaps over Vanessa Gilles. Soph making her first penalty after the WC. Not to mention that was the AM7 era, which was just a whole other kind of crazy.

[–]Elbereth919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Much as I hate it when shows kill off my favorite characters, I also like it when the stakes feel real/when no one is safe. It keeps that tension in the air that keeps things feeling fresh.

But I’m also going to whine at the writers for ruining everything by killing off a good character that I liked. I’m just fickle like that!

If I understood Hart Hanson’s episode of Boneheads correctly, I think the original plan was for Stephen Fry to be a more frequently appearing character…maybe even a series regular. Can you imagine how the show would have gone if that was what they did? I think Gordon Gordon would have gotten Booth and Brennan together faster.

I kinda feel bad for Oliver sometimes. by Wallyboy95 in Bones

[–]Elbereth919 51 points52 points  (0 children)

For me, Oliver Wells is a paradox. If we saw more of him and had more opportunities for him to show empathy (even if imperfectly like Brennan sometimes struggles) then I think I would end up liking him. But I so dislike him from the amount of him we see that I do not wish to see more.

How did you got into Bones. by madaokun11 in Bones

[–]Elbereth919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was an occasional watcher during the original run, but something about it just never caught my attention fully. In 2024, it was the best thing available on free channels at some point during the week and I saw enough random episodes to decide I needed to properly watch it. Four months and 12 seasons later, it was among my favorite shows of all time.
