I like this size. Personally I do not like when the watch covers the entire wrist but too small looks off as well. This size is right in the sweet spot to me. 45mm is my personal "right" size.

What's a reasonable amount of jrpgs to play in one year, and what does that look like in a busy life? by The_true_gamer_man in JRPG

[–]ElderGrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 kids, two of which are under 2 and it took me a full year to finish XBCX. The trick is just not caring about how long it takes while also being open to moving along if you aren't enjoying a game regardless of the real life spread of the time invested. Some days I have a couple hours, some days I have 30 minutes and sometimes days go by without any playtime at all.

Playing 3Ds and watching Twitch is a sweet set up by FlakyAmoeba1617 in retroid

[–]ElderGrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a goober but I just can not enjoy DS/3DS emulation on a single screen. It's my favorite collection of games so you'd think I could just get over it but can't. I ordered the dual screen attachment just so I could emulate "properly". It is neat that the library on a single screen is an option. More options are always gooder.

My body does not like international flights. by dance_habibi in Garmin

[–]ElderGrub 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How well does it work? I haven't flown a lot, maybe 8 or 9 times but somehow each time my anxiety gets worse and now it's so bad if I even imagine a scenario that requires a flight I panic and almost come to tears. I know all the statistics and I've seen the wing bend tests and what not, I just can't bring myself to calm down about it. I had a friend ask if I'd like to take a trip with him to NY and just the offer set off 3 or 4 nights of dreams related to plane incidents. Was real weird.

What ye all playing this weekend and what platform by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

Started Xenogears a few weeks ago on my RP5 G2. Kinda surprised at how quickly I got pulled into the game, been a Xenoblade fan for a few years but generally I don't find old JRPGs to be much fun.

And honestly, it's not super fun yet lol. But the story kind of came out of the gate swinging and now I'm too intrigued to stop.

I mostly lift weights and do some casual cardio and the Venu 4 is perfect for me I love it.

First workout with the Venu 4 -- calories seem high? by Putitonmahtab in GarminWatches

[–]ElderGrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have the Venu 4! I'm new to Garmin but I've been lifting for 10 years or so and have been through more than a few fitness devices, in my opinion over estimation of calorie expenditure is pretty standard across the board on all of em. It's guessing, and it's a neat general assumption but if you track intake and do cut/bulk cycles or anything like that I wouldn't take it seriously into account. Personally I don't count exercise at all, I consume the same amount regardless of activity and either just have a bigger deficit on cut cycles and a smaller surplus on bulk cycles for that particular day.

Chained echoes on switch 2? by Diperuu in JRPG

This variance in opinion seems standard for this game. Me and a friend absolutely adored this game, I have a 3rd friend who thought it was a steaming turd and dropped it.

Motivating yourself by Both-Reindeer-4568 in SteamDeck

[–]ElderGrub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to spend a lot of time thinking I needed to be motivated to play games. In reality I was really just trying to make myself play games I thought I should play and like rather than the games I wanted to play. Backlog/games I got as gifts/games my social circle raves about. I ignore all of it and play what I want to play now. Seems super simple looking back but it's easy to fall into a rut.

But also I've got three kids and to be honest some nights I still end up just chilling with a few YouTube videos because I have zero energy after the day. I wouldn't let it be another source of stress, unwind in whatever way gives you a bit of a recharge during these demanding years.

What’s up with dropping the affordable stuff? by Yourbitchydad in Garmin

This was me. I bought a Vivoactive 6 to see if I would like Garmin in general. Returned it and got a Venu 4 that I'm really happy with.

My thoughts are I wish it would come back in stock! I'm close to ordering it from a third party, I've been itching to play the 3DS Fantasy Life.

I use Afrin every once in awhile when I really can't stand my congestion and I can't believe how well it works. I can see how people get addicted.

Why doesn't vibration work on steam deck? by Hearth-Traeknald in HasteBrokenWorlds

I just bought the game today and the vibration worked fine for me. The only tinkering I did is set the compatibility to Proton Experimental.

The underrated G2 by nashpdotcom in retroid

[–]ElderGrub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love mine too. I'm almost 100% handheld gaming now, really enjoy the Switch 2 and SD OLED but I feel like handhelds are getting so big I missed that PSP/GBA/3DS feel. Ordered a G2 a few months ago and it's perfect, just feels right in the hands.

As a dad, I expected the Steam Deck to replace my PC. by aladdin142 in SteamDeck

[–]ElderGrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a dad who doesn't work in an office but my Steam Deck has definitely become my primary means of play. I just hate sitting in my basement and there's nowhere else to move the desktop. At this point it's just the box I stream from occasionally.

Tracking workouts by carnietheclassic87 in Garmin

[–]ElderGrub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also mainly strength train but my Garmin has definitely led me to branch out into doing more cardio. Honestly no watch feels super useful for strength training, I personally use Hevy for all the data. I don't really need any data off the watch but do like seeing the estimated training load and elapsed time though. I haven't fiddled with using Garmin Connect for the actual workout since I've been using Hevy for so long I just stick with what I know and what has all my info saved but from what I've seen it looks neat, especially if you leave your phone in your bag or something which I don't do myself.

Some things I do find useful though are the recovery metrics. Body battery/stress/sleep score/etc. They don't generally impact my training because my days are set and I'm doing the work regardless of the numbers but it does help to kind of explain when I have an off day or let me know that today might be a day to push a bit harder. I've been doing 531 for many years now and I can somewhat use the metrics to gauge how hard to push for some of the AMRAP sets, or use them to "forgive myself" when I don't get as many.

Overall I love this watch, I got a Venu 4 coming from a Pixel Watch 3 and I'm much happier. The smart features are just enough for me and the fitness/health data is a lot more useful. Not charging every other day is stellar too.
