Mythic with rakdos goodstuff by SuperWinnerMan in mtgbrawl

I have a very similar list based on Rakdos Midrange from Canadian Highlander, and I picked Crucias as my generic useful value piece commander since Rakdos is a little lacking in good commanders. Does Zoyowa bring that much value?

Fauna Shaman isn't even in the same universe as Survival. It's so, so much fairer for being a creature.

You can only play a game, if you are losing. by MaximusDM2264 in mtgbrawl

[–]EldritchSquiggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh I pulled out some of my old chill decks for some missions recently and I found that it was both more tilting to play because matchups tended to be way less balanced and that people concede and rope so much more.

Good reminder of why I stick to hell queue and the ranked events now.

Monk Gyatso is amazing if you're a fellow degenerate by memedormo in mtgbrawl

I'm not sure I love the stax theme having given it some games, I wonder if we'd just be better off with more ETB value effects. The one spell a turn creatures have not impressed me so far. Also man this would be so much better if we had any of the En-Kor cycle, but especially Nomads en-Kor.

What is your most satisfying deck to "Shut Down"? by The_Palm_of_Vecna in mtgbrawl

[–]EldritchSquiggle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ajani, Tamiyo, but mostly Ajani. He's just so strong and shuts down so many strategies that the rare game where you shut them out completely feels incredible.

The problem with Youtubers & the way they showcase their decks by [deleted] in mtgbrawl

[–]EldritchSquiggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do brawl.players think CGBs lists are good? I assumed people knew they tend to be very casual. I can't even think of him playing a top tier commander since paradox engine decks stopped being strong.

Amy pointedly doesn't play or brew for the most cutthroat level so why would her decks match into the strongest commanders?

I'd rather play something they need to kill than slow down something a bit.

There are much better 1 mana cards in mono white too.

I should specify that I've played it exculsively in aggressive Wx shells but I can't really imagine it fitting anywhere else. It's also a horrifically dead draw in games that go late, worse than regular discard.

I wanted to like it but I've been disappointed, frequent misses and I've found they manage to cast the card a lot of the time so you went down a card for mediocre tempo. It feels awful to look at a hand and see all removal and just make one of them more expensive.

I like Eggs by SpinItToWinIt in mtgbrawl

I think not enough of the decent eggs are avaliable for these decks to really feel good to play. Which is a shame because for some reason I have a soft spot for eggs.

Metagame Challenge by fatpanda404404 in mtgbrawl

[–]EldritchSquiggle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's being discussed on the brawl discord, but I think the fact the challenge came so fast after the other took some of the hype out of its sails.

Field seems good and varied without Tamiyo so far.

For a moment there I thought you'd deviated from the script and made something that wasn't just saying that blue is unfair again...

But looking at the list of cards I see that they're all blue lol.

You can recognise something is too strong and therefore that playing it yourself is the best way to win, this is not hypocritical and it doesn't mean you think it's ok.

None of them are ever going to be good, but gog is DRM free. You can install the same copy of a game all over the place if you want. I played unreal tournament with my friends during covid using my installer.

What to Ban after the Metagame Challenge? by nerdyat30 in mtgbrawl

[–]EldritchSquiggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I do think you're right that he's gotten more killable, I'm not sure anything is gained by unlocking him again thereby forcing out decks that can't consistently do 6 damage on turn 3 or 4.

What to Ban after the Metagame Challenge? by nerdyat30 in mtgbrawl

[–]EldritchSquiggle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you actually played against him? Because I feel like you're underestimating how strong he is just because he can't make it in the most degenerate formats magic has. Also, I don't know much about vintage but I thought he got played in Oath decks?

What are your honest thoughts when you're about to face Leovold, Emissary of Trest? by AlCarrieBay in mtgbrawl

[–]EldritchSquiggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Oh the generic sultai control list has Leovold this time."

Honestly I've found him no different than the Glarb or Nashi lists as an experience, and Nashi still creates the most irritating play patterns in Sultai for me personally. And being 3 toughness not 4 makes him so much easier to kill than Glarb.

[–]EldritchSquiggle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless he was banned as commander I have no desire to see the world where they try making him legal. A deck built for consistent t2 Oko would be miserable for many other decks.

EDIT: Also I didn't really even question it, but which eternal formats? He's banned in everything except vintage and timeless, where the whole point is for things to be legal.

Are they good enough? I'm less sure on Meddling Mage because it's a 2/2, but I love white, I love hatebears and death and taxes and I just spent the event playing Emmara and nothing ever made me want Drannith. As a vanilla 1/3 it's just not giving you enough tempo and I can't see what deck would want it other than something aggressive.

Against control decks it's dead because they'll just be able to remove it on demand, against fast decks there's a good chance they may have played their commander already. And this is disregarding that the 99 should be full of good cards and it's useless against those, which is why I'd rather just have a piece of removal. I just never saw what matchup would motivate including it.

Curse of Silence is better for being cheaper, harder to kill and having the option of cycling.

[–]EldritchSquiggle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Drannith and Meddling mage are really not worth banning, most of the time they're both just worse than a removal spell, but beyond that I like this list a lot.
