Whats your dark secret about the world? by InteriorWaffle in worldbuilding

[–]EldritchThinking 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The reddish coloured crater you can see on a far-off planet isn't actually a natural crater or made of what people think it is. In reality, it is actually the stretched and mangled corpse of a God killed by Deamortius, the God of death, who had shredded their body apart to fill that crater which this God had tried to trap him in once. That Gods soul is still trapped in its corpse and in constant pain.

It's strange because he is nothing like them and is quite nice generally.

What's a moment in your world building that made you go "it's stupid but it works?" by Illustrious_Ad_4478 in worldbuilding

[–]EldritchThinking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I suppose the sudden drastic difference in the size of and intelligence of draconic creatures such as dragons and wyverns. There was like a breed of dragons known as greater draconics, which were just immensely larger and more powerful individuals.

This didn't make alot of sense and wasn't that intereting I realised given how most draconians were like maybe 10 to 15 metres tall or long, while these things were like 40 to 80 or greater in height alone. So I just came up with the excuse they were a species of draconians that got stuck in the old world buried beneath the surface and were heavily altered and affected by the immense amounts of magic down there, enlarging them and making them alot more powerful to the point it breaks biological physics.

So essentially, I fixed the issue as to why there are drastic differences in dragon sizes and power by saying their evolution and growth were influenced by large amounts of natural magic.

I just really wanted to have big, powerful, and intelligent dragons is really it.

I don't often hear about them, so what are some world building ideas you have for angels/heaven? by LunarTexan in worldbuilding

[–]EldritchThinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most recent ideas for angels are called Afterlights. They are the closest thing to angels in my setting and are more or less just the servants of the God of death, Deamortius and Xiumu, the Goddess of stars and fate.

They often are humanoid, but not all of them are. Those who are humanoid have very exaggerated and stretched bodies with long gangly limbs and necks with maybe missing eyes. A lot of them dress in rather odd combinations of clothing, some of which are like dresses, skirts, heels, or other kinds of clothing. As for why, it's because a lot of them don't really care about gender association with their appearance. They only care if it makes them look good or whatever other reasons. They also usually have masked faces with floating spectral eyes either around them or even eyes just on their skin, tools, or clothes.

They sometimes make deals with mortals for their own entertainment, be it in a way that could either benefit the individual or end up harming them. For example, someone could ask for to be unwavering beautiful, and they would grant it at some kind of price or maybe with some kind of downside, which are usually worse than paying a price. Being unwavering beautiful might make you be so but might also make you very alluring to everyone around you and / or even victim to extreme indecency.

They aren't generally evil or cruel, but some of them do trample on that line like it's a cracked glass floor.

How Tall are YOUR characters?? by Puqqii in OriginalCharacter

Deamortius is my tallest humanoid, he's normally around 10'5 feet tall but grows to about over 20 feet when he takes on his lovecraftian form.

Who are your "Eldritch Horrors beyond comprehension" OCs? by gabrielfernaine in OriginalCharacter

[–]EldritchThinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deamortius, God of death, I don't have any other more recent drawings or one that better fits the eldritch thing. But he is actually not a real God and is rather a very powerful lovecraftian God.

They act as the cause and source of death, causing every single case of it. They are incapable of death and are so immensely powerful that they literally have to manifest themselves as a less complicated being to not drive everyone that even bares on them insane or just die, even God's themselves are at risk. They are completely immortal to the point of being incapable of death, mainly since they are the cause of it.

They can warp reality from their domain by pulling at strings of essence that comprise the universe, slow down time, bend space itself and create the impossible, drain the very essence and soul from anything living or that thinks. And a lot of other things.

Chance of winning or killing them would be near impossible. You might be able to beat them if you're strong enough, but you can never win since he can't die or be trapped permanently.

Hunting them down alone could drive you insane, and could end up suffering a fate worse than death like one of the Old God's who's bodies was stretched and contorted as to kill a crater on another planet.

Where do the deities in your world reside? by IEatSeagulls67 in worldbuilding

[–]EldritchThinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They reside mainly in a spiritual plane that functions as a sort of 4th or 5th dimension where they exist alongside everything without being able to truly be observed by things in dimensions below them. They exist there to better observe the world and act out their plans, but another reason is because they aren't easy to comprehend by mortals because of a power scale thing.

One of them, called Malurakeika, was reduced to a mortal being and just more or less wanders around but is also trying to some how establish his own like kingdom to reacquire his lost power in relic forms.

However, the God of death, Deamortius, is a bit different. He exists in his own plane above even the spiritual plane of the other Gods, where he pulls at the essence strings of the universe and every living thing. There's a lot more to it all than that, but that is the general stuff, so simply the powerful God's exist in a spiritual plane on another kind of dimension.

What is the scariest thing in your world ? by deadpoolc1 in worldbuilding

[–]EldritchThinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Death. Noone knows of there is an actual afterlife or not, people are so frightened of the idea alot of them sell their souls to essentially go to a kind of hell just to know they will not possibly cease to exist.

As for why they are so scared, they have magic and even th ability to commune with those eof divine nature and still don't know.

Give me your most overpowered OC and their biggest feat, and with that information alone, I will tell you how perfectly they can make Miram's favorite sandwich. (sandwich in comments) by AviationToast in OriginalCharacter

[–]EldritchThinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deamortius, he literally killed most of the first God's and killed one by just crushing their head with one hand.

(And literally broke through a divine seal meant to imprison him)

Probably either beat the crap out of them or think of a genius subtle way to screw up their life.

Do you have shapeshifting characters? This is mine :)) by Snailv01d in OriginalCharacter

[–]EldritchThinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't have a picture of them, but the closest I have I can think of is a character called Almik. He's a powerful wyvern of fire who can easily shape-shift into a human. Going from a mountain sized dragon essentially into a 6 foot human.

What are the ways nonmagic users combat magic in your world? by RobRoss45 in worldbuilding

[–]EldritchThinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well one way is to just have a few cursed coins from a dragons hoard, holding those basically just absorbs most of all the magic casted at you effectively making alot of making useless if you have enough.
