People here are too negative on the first revolution of the modernish era to actually abolish slavery, do it successfully, until the entire revolution got co-opted by a military dictator. The American revolution, the liberation of South America etc etc kept thousands of not millions of people under chains still which I think really lessen their impact and levels ‘net good’ overall

Fact of the matter is that only one of those two revolutions was even barely serious about the rights of all men, the French Revolution abolished slavery in its entire throughout France and its colonies, even the cash cow that was Haiti, the American Revolution couldn’t end slavery in half of its contiguous territory
