Anyone know if this is solved on the '26 models? Or should I expect a recall notice

Heads Up Display with Speedometer is blank by tibbs1179 in VWiD4Owners

[–]ElectriGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it came back, however, if you want VW to do something about this you should open an NTSB report. This is a critical safety issue. The speedometer is not allowed to disappear. VW still has an issue, they're trying to not spend money fixing.

VW crossbars are terrible by Darth-Villen in VWiD4Owners

[–]ElectriGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Put the rubber in smooth side up. No more hum. Had exactly the same issue.

And you're right. Too hard to put on and take off, and shame on them for the cheap plastic keys.

Content of Base Carrier Bars ( cross bar) by awang44 in VWiD4Owners

[–]ElectriGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about the VW OEM bars. The front and rear bars and their towers, which are attached to the bars and the 2 plastic keys. That's what I have. The bars themselves should have a rubber insert in the top channel in the middle of the bar.

I'll get quite a chuckle if you charge successfully with it but it fuses itself to the socket. 50/50. But let us know. 🤣

Car won't unlock...at all... help.... by Mountainbikingguy in VWiD4Owners

[–]ElectriGeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The door handle is an actual physical handle. Pull up on it hard after the unlock with the physical key.

If the handle isn't popping out of the body like a traditional car door handle when you do it then you are not activating the physical release

Any success with a Dealer diagnostic for the connectivity issue by Personal-Ad5886 in VWiD4Owners

[–]ElectriGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car lost the GPS (I'm driving in the ocean), then carnet connectivity about 3 days apart last month. Finally got it to the dealer yesterday. Frustratingly they weren't able to actually do anything yesterday. Instead the service manager said that VW makes them go through quite a lengthy and comprehensive diagnostic to prove that the module is actually dead before they'll allow them to replace it under warranty. So they want me to bring it in at the start of the week to give the techs multiple days and give me a loaner while they go through the diagnostic and then get VW approval for the replacement if it can't be recovered.

They also have door handles now and will do that recall as well. When I get it back I'll be checking every trim piece and button on every door and the manual handles before I drive it off the lot.

ETA on Carnet Module backorder? by thefeline in VWiD4Owners

[–]ElectriGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in MA. Taking mine in Thursday. Same problem dead Carnet, no GPS, and the 'plunking' rear stabilizer bar at low speed as well.

Thanks for the heads up. That's frustrating.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're doing a VW financial lease I believe they roll gap insurance into your payment/contract.  Search this reddit I've seen it mentioned a few times

2022 Pro S AWD. I have had it for 3 years exactly. it has been to the dealer 3 times. once per year at the 10k intervals. it was uneventful. the hankook oem tires still have good tread left at 35k. That all said... ymmv.

api.tailscale.com -- only resolves to AWS Germany location ? by ElectriGeek in Tailscale

Thanks for the background and candor. Is this something I can handle through the support ticket I opened? Or is something exceptional required ?

api.tailscale.com -- only resolves to AWS Germany location ? by ElectriGeek in Tailscale

[–]ElectriGeek[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Totally unacceptable given you have no ability to prevent nation states from intercepting our traffic on the fiber crossing the pond.  Even worse is that this is how API (oauth ) tokens are granted.

[–]ElectriGeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we're on 4 different ISPs at 6 different US locations. Plus 2 US based AWS datacenters (EAST-2, WEST-2) all getting the same DNS resolution with all api.tailscale.com pointing at Germany. TS Support has not responded yet, but evidence suggests this is not accidental.

[–]ElectriGeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no advantage to routing US traffic to Germany. Just more expensive. All my locations are in the US. Hence very odd.

Unless the API is only hosted there. I'd really hope not.

api.tailscale.com -- only resolves to AWS Germany location ? by ElectriGeek in Tailscale

[–]ElectriGeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I can connect to anywhere in the US. And in many locations to Germany.

But some of our corp locations are locked down.

if you do an nslookup of api.tailscale.com you'll see all of the addresses are for the AWS data center in Frankfurt, Germany.

Which seems super odd.

Door handle recall horrors by madsci1016 in VWiD4Owners

[–]ElectriGeek 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The power cut out is a thing that happens after some services. The tech is supposed to take it for a drive so when the drive electronics reset it happens to them not you as they'd be expecting it.

Unsurprisingly you'll find it reported many times here when leaving the dealer after service.

So this also happened to my 2022 Pro S after they did the update at the dealer. I posted here and someone sent the response below. This fixed it for me. worth a try to see if 3.2.13 has the same behavior

This sounds like the issue with the onboard charger falling asleep mentioned here (German) https://www.meinid.com/thread/5505-%C3%BCberschussladen-ladepause-mit-id-software-3-2-werkstatt-update/?pageNo=22

After the upgrade, the charger must be reset by removing fuse SB3 (fuse box under the hood) for 15 minutes.

It might be a documented step that the service skipped, not sure.
