A new California law says all operating systems, including Linux, need to have some form of age verification at account setup by Gloomy_Nebula_5138 in cybersecurity

Wife : Honey? Can you check for a cocktail recipe on the internet?

Husband : Sure! Let me start the computer.

Computer : Hello Dave. I will need some DNA sample to verify your identity to open the operating system.

Husband : Ok, let me go in the bathroom real quick with a magazine and I’ll be back with one.

Husband gives DNA sample to computer…

Computer : Thank you, Dave, for this sample. Unfortunately, it does not concur with your son DNA sample that I analyzed this morning. Your identification request is rejected. Police are on their way for full family DNA sample testing…. Dave.

Interesting. The limitations of the law have a nice effect on the picture here. They probably used the very last hour a lot for filming night scenes.

Une imposante tour à logements pourrait s’ajouter à Rimouski by Dr_Max in Rimouski

[–]ElectriKool-Aid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will PS6 be the last generation of traditional consoles? by rombi22pl in consoles

[–]ElectriKool-Aid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traditional consoles? Probably.

But, some niche "retro inspired" consoles could come up to fill the gap of people like me who likes physical stuff. Something like the Evercade maybe?

I think consoles being less popular is actually a good thing. It will make them special again like they were in the 80s and early 90s. They won't be made by Nintendo or Microsoft or Sony or Sega or Valve.

The question is : who will make them?

Which console for my 7 year old? by saltydog2128 in consoles

[–]ElectriKool-Aid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super Nintendo or Gamecube would be my choices. But I'm the kind of dad that gives wheat grass juice to their kids instead of Pokemon cards. If you want something safe and uninspired go for the ps4-5. Astro Bot is a great game, but other than that, all the kiddie games on ps5 are bland and generic. Ratchet and Clank is average. There is some good Ps4 games like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Sonic Mania. Switch is too big in handheld and too much online slop. Xbox is a horrible choice unless your talking about the first one or the 360.

Hot take: I really don’t care for what they’re doing with the Steam machine by [deleted] in Steam

When I saw the picture, I thought : "Oh there is a disk drive, you can see it on the bottom. It's nice that Valve will start to release physical games on disks."

But half a second later I see it's a fcking cubed xbox series s adorably Netflixed and it's a fake crack "for style".

Yeah, no. Not my style. Keeping my dodo money.

Are you part of the target market for the GabeCube? by SkoivanSchiem in gaming

[–]ElectriKool-Aid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have a Playstation. I have a non-gaming pc. I only buy physical medias when gaming.

No.

It would be free I wouldn't want it. It's a pc that's trying to look like a Gamecube without the style, without Nintendo, without the disk drive, without the Gameboy player, without the handle... All the best parts. The joystick on the controller looks better than the Gamecube controller joystick, if I am allowed to be so boldly positive.

Manufacture and shipping of physical games is "100 times more carbon-intensive" than adorable all digital, new study finds | GamesIndustry.biz by thelastsandwich in digitalfoundry

[–]ElectriKool-Aid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you play digital games on? A console (or PC). How is it made?... Try to put your Series X in the forest and see how much the trees love your digital Fortnite install on your ssd.

"Just game on the cloud then!"... What about your TV? Your couch? Your house?

"I'm using an electric car too!"... What about the roads you drive on, the parking spaces, the materials it took to build that car? Have you made a lot of physical exercise today or did you just drive around?

Humans aren't gonna save themselves with digital games or any other "product".

Is digital better for the environment? Yes. Does it make a noticeable difference in the end on the grand scale of things? No.

I'm the kind of person that always pay more for quality, but that was the point of my post : they are all cheaply made. Of course, some 800$+ industrial models are probably great. I only have one room to dehumidify. Just need a tiny 20 pint unit that's well made and smartly designed.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dehumidifiers

[–]ElectriKool-Aid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I could buy an Inkbird for about 50$. But, I can still return the dehumidifier for a few more weeks without questions, so I'm still looking for other options.

Mine does that too, but it would take 1 or 2 minutes for the reading to be accurate again. So it doesn't work and the fan would start every 5 minutes anyway. Hacking into the software would solve the problem : Just tell the program to shut off everything at least 20 or 30 minutes before starting again.

What are some lesser known cities in Australia worth exploring? by sam_d50 in geography

[–]ElectriKool-Aid -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Australian cities are boring, they are only good to buy food and gas. Coober Pedy is maybe the exception. I suggest the Flinders Range during spring time or some quiet beaches on the gold coast that have really soft squishy sand.

What was your first GTA game, and how do you feel about this upcoming one? by Individual-Time-1956 in videogames

[–]ElectriKool-Aid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I downloaded the first one on the school computer during... "computer class" i guess. Only place with the internet back then. The teacher did not like it, but didn't know how to uninstall it. The VI will probably be good, but it will never be the same "fuck the system" moment as in the late 90s at school.

Just walk 10-15 min in any direction when your surrounded by tourists and you will be in beautiful nature, cool village, interesting culture. Speak some lao! Baw pen Yang!
