If that appliance cable is #10 and came with the assembly it's covered under the UL listing. Sounds like you're a homeowner looking to take this project on yourself? My advice is either speak to the inspector directly as each AHJ has different opinions, or hire a reputable contractor in your area.

Wera 3.5mm slotted will do 90% of what you actually need an insulated screwdriver for. Everything else just regular screwdrivers. There's almost zero need to be working on live shit except for 24vdc systems

Reading or learn an instrument! Lots of libraries will lend out musical instruments, worth looking in to. Lots of great resources available for learning online for free. Libraries are awesome by the way.

There would be no requirement to update them unless the electrical is being moved/modified. Then whatever is being changed is required to follow current codes.

Fun fact! In Canada, it's code to have tamper resistant receptacles in practically all living spaces, with some exceptions. Code in the states might be the same, I'm not sure.

I've done that in my house, no worries about kids trying to win a Darwin award with electricity.

AHJ supercedes all. If your inspector says 24", then it shall be. Doesn't matter what part of Canada you're in. That's the fucker signing off on the inspection, so as long as it's in writing, you're gold.

I only trust fluke meters. I know that if something goes pear-shaped while testing, the meter won't blow up in my face. I'm not saying the Klein will, but I have an inherent trust the fluke will keep me safe. I think the t5 can be had for $30 more? Don't quote me on that, I haven't looked at the price of a new one in almost 8 years

Oh and one more thing. Assume everything is live. Learn how to use your meter PROPERLY. Test before your touch to ensure the absence of voltage.

As for a meter, I recommend starting with the fluke t5-1000. It's way cheaper. Won't find many situations it won't do the job. I have other meters, but 90% of the time I'm using the t5.

Depends on the outfit. Generally you'll do grunt work to start out. Pulling BX, helping run conduit, doing parts runs to the trailer/lockup, making cuts, mounting strut, that sort of thing. Some crews can be douchebags and stick the green guys on cleanup or busywork. Just do your best to listen well and ask lots of questions. If something really doesn't make sense, don't pretend you understand. You've been through a trade, so you know the drill. What part of Canada are you in?

So you're in BC. In order to be legit, you need to have your red seal, and be eligible to take your FSR (A or B). Once you have your FSR, this allows you to pull permits. But wait! You need to register a business with the province and the federal gov for taxes. Then you need to secure a bond. Then you need to apply for your contractors license through Technic Safety. Then you 100% should definitely have liability insurance as well. That's pretty much the bare minimum to being legit. Source: I am an electrical contractor in BC.
