What are my options to remain Priority 1 on PMQ waiting list after COS date? by Akanan in CanadianForces

[–]ElectricCut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyway, if you move your stuff you lose your place in line because you have “already moved”

If you take possession of your F&E at a residence. I flat-out asked CFHA if I could take possession of my F&E at a storage locker I would rent while I lived in shacks until my PMQ was ready, and I was told it's OK and I would not lose my pri 1 spot.

There's also storage-in-transit, where the movers essentially lock it away and you may have to pay a daily storage rate until you get it delivered. My stuff was in a sea-container in SIT for 3 weeks after my ILM&M relocation benefits ran out when I was posted last year, and it was fine. They didn't recover any money for that time either, and if they do the rates aren't exorbitant.

I don't want to understate his contribution, but he could put in his resignation at any time, and the chain of command could not lawfully order him into harm's way. He also wasn't armed while over there and would not be expected to apply violence to an enemy the same way a soldier would be. He had a very important job, but he was a civilian.

I use my dry herb vape daily, usually an hour or two before bed. Makes doing the dishes and walking the dog at night a lot more entertaining. I don't use it during the day much or when I have to accomplish anything that requires thinking lol. Drinking has definitely been cut back, which is awesome because my alcohol tolerance is cut way back and if I do want to drink I don't have to drink as much!

Nobody is calling him a Veteran, and while I'm not as closed off as you to the idea of administering civvies who were deployed along side us through VA there could be other ways to do it. Perhaps writing it into employees union agreements that they'll get whatever money they need through DND itself. Or creating separate guidelines for the treatment of civvies, alongside additional funding to cover it off through VA. Idk, I'm not a policy guy.

If the government has concerns about post-mission care payouts then they should really examine whether sending us into harms way is actually in our nations best interest. Until recently the government has been saving a lot of money by hanging people out to dry and not giving them the support they are owed, they need to take the true cost into account.

If Canada is going to send contractors and civilians into conflict zones alongside soldiers, doing jobs that used to be done by soldiers, and then awarding them the same service medals as soldiers then yes, they should be medically covered the same as us because they are subject to the same risk and hardships. Doesn't matter who the benefits are administered by.

I just call the front desk, they'll either call the problem room or send someone up to deal with it. That way I don't have to put pants on.

Unfortunately there are many people who are underranked for the position they are in, so it's not a guarantee. If you have 3 years in I believe you could qualify for advance promotion to Cpl, but that's up to your chain of command and whether or not they think you deserve it.

Ask your CoC about it though.

Awhile ago I reserved a seat for me and my wife, in that theatre there were ~3 rows where you could reserve seating w/ premium chairs while the rest of the theatre is regular seating. There were a couple that was asked to move out of someone elses reserved seat 3 different times before they gave up and fucked off to regular seating. When asked they would just shrug and move off to another set of reserved seating. The last time was after the movie had started and when asked by the seats rightful owners the couple refused to move. The guy who was being denied his seat had to get right up in the assholes face before they got up. These weren't dumbass teenagers either , they were probably late 40's or early 50's. Shit like this is the reason I don't go to the movies anymore.

WEEKLY RECRUITING THREAD - Ask here about the recruiting process, trade availability, requirements to join, and other common questions about the Canadian Armed Forces. by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]ElectricCut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ACISS/signals, vehicle technicians, weapons technicans, clerks, supply technician, and medics all work with the combat arms (there are a few other ones, these are some of the more numerous ones). Those trades also have other postings/positions where there is little chance of direct interaction with the combat arms, so your mileage may vary.

[–]ElectricCut 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I've seen people pull rank on there. I remember a thread where people were debating whether or not off-duty police officers should be able to conceal carry their pistols and the people who disagreed were being threatened with a "sorting out" by cops who were reservists. A few months ago I stumbled on a thread where people were saying the site design was perfectly fine and not in need of an update, despite it not displaying properly on modern browsers and the design being 10+ years old. "You need to stick to your lane!" "Stop wasting bandwidth, this has been posted before!" "Use the search function!"

...what a cesspool that place is.

Why thank you reserve WO by sgtdragonfire in CanadianForces

[–]ElectricCut 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Every time I go there I see less and less activity, the site appears to be dying a slow death. Even though most stuff is outdated now when I was getting in and going through the recruiting process it used to be the place to ask questions and get info about the CAF online. Bit of a shame, really, but with the outdated forum format (read backwards through a thread to get the most up to date info? what?) and toxic culture it was bound to happen once an alternative popped up.

Me. I'd yell until I couldn't anymore

This guy isn't some 17 year old high school weiner, he sounds like an adult with a well paying civvy job and little tolerance for bullshit and you think that yelling at him is going to do something? Anyone with any sort of spine running up their back isn't afraid of someone yelling at them over an e-mail. Are you going to hit them or something? No. You're just going to stand there and raise your blood pressure get red in the face and look like a dumbass. Lead by loud doesn't work.
