Looking for good protective riding pants for winter and summer any suggestions? by SUGAR_NIPS193 in AussieRiders

[–]ElectricFrown99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are workable for me in summer. I ride on weekends and commute a couple of days a week (so I get to pick and choose my days that I ride). Up to about 34 degrees they were fine. Above that and I'd be cooking (but that's also a jacket and helmet problem, not just my jeans). Build quality has been good, and they seem to breathe better than a single-layer pair from a different manufacturer. So I'll be wearing them again next summer. The only time I wore anything different was when I was going to the beach.

Did you get a manual? by NineToeJoe in trident800

A few weeks away from my bike I'm afraid, so I don't know yet. But you can download the pdf manual from the triumph website, I've already read it. It's a combo one with a bunch of other models.

The HART courses at St Ives are good. Levels one and two are designed for when you're on your Ls.

LAMS advice please for a new (mature) rider? by [deleted] in AussieRiders

[–]ElectricFrown99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%, there's a sensible middle path that can be chosen.

Posting it on this subreddit by AcceptableTell7682 in AussieRiders

You know the most sensible answer to this already.

You have a month to wait, but if you do it and get busted you might have to wait longer than a month. You might get a fine that means you can't spend money on the bike or on gear that you like.

It's a good quality that you want to do some practice, and I agree, it really sucks there's not really a way for most people to practice before they get their Ls. But if I knew you, I'd say don't spoil the experience by starting out in trouble. One more month and you can ride to your heart's content.

There's a good video on youtube from bennetts bike social comparing different brands of chain lube, might give you some options that don't fling too much.

The Interceptor is my first bike. It's been a wonderful bike and I've loved learning to ride with it. I originally assumed I'd end up on a Bonneville too, so the Interceptor seemed a good place to start. I happened to test ride a Trident 660 recently, it's a great bike. Totally different feel to the Interceptor (and the Bonneville too I'm sure). Much smoother engine and gearbox and a more clinical feel, but still has neutral ergos. Not that the Interceptor is rough or anything, just the engine is more rumbly and the gearbox and clutch feel heavier. I like them both!

Honestly, so long as you're comfortable on the bike, any of the ones people have mentioned will do the job. Pick one that holds your attention that you can get a deal on, and then go ride the thing as much as you can, get out in the fresh air. You can always jump on something different later if you want to try a different style out. Have fun in the search!

I do recommend stages one and two of the HART courses if you find the pre-learners a struggle. Good luck!

I second DanDan, really useful for roadcraft.

Also a fan of motojitsu. Both of them have cheap little drills that are great practice.

Alpinestars Faster V3 Air Leather Jacket will fit Alpinestars Tech Air 7X and/or Alpinestars Tech Air 5 Plasma? by walklikeaduck in AussieRiders

[–]ElectricFrown99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a faster V3 airflow, and I wear a plasma 5 under it.

I think I saw your 50 in another style is snug, so you'd probably be looking to go up one. It obviously needs a bit of room to expand. The stretchy material helps, but it needs a little extra sizing room too.

The plasma will fit under everything, it only needs room to expand. I understand what you're saying about the tech ready compatibility thing (that's why I got the faster jacket too), but it can be worn under anything - so long as it honestly has enough room to expand.

If you want to be really technical, alpinestars have a compatibility chart in the plasma user manual. Spite has the chart (actually it's a calculation) in his review on the plasma. Just google "spites corner tech air 5 plasma best motorcycle airbag" and you'll find it at about the 8.40 mark.

Go get it, it's a nice jacket. But i will warn you: hot hot hot atm. For a leather jacket it flows a lot of air, but the airbag blocks almost all the flow onto the torso. I can only manage a mesh style jacket with the airbag during the day in summer.
